Just wondering if anybody has tried out any "misfit" stories... like having characters like Gnome Barbarians, or Half-Orc Sorcerers, stuff like that.

Did you have a good time? Were your characters/parties successful?

It's maybe not really a misfit, but I love Ghostwise halflings because of their favored class - Barbarian.
They make great barbarian/clerics or barb/druids!

I once had a party leader who was a half orc Bard named Lickspittle, he only had 16 points in CHA at the start but he got the job done and he was a lot of fun, so my answer is YES!

Being a strict 2E fan I can hardly bear with the facts 3E introduced...Creating a half-orc paladin sounds like blasphemy to me, for instance, and so all other freakish combos. :p I can not picture a halfling wizard, for example. Call me a bigot, will you?

BUT I can see it can be a fun and different experience indeed. Just not my cup of tea, sorry! :) And it has nothing to do with power gaming! Halflings CAN be as decent mages as any humans (excluding tieflings, they get +2 INT) in 3e, righto?

Silverstar, the racial class restrictions is the one thing I hated most about 2e. It never made a single shread of logic to me.

Mind you, were I DM'ing a pnp group, I'd want players to have good justifications for some odd combinations, but I hate the idea of the rules banning such combos. Indeed, I suppose had 3e never came along and I was DM'ing a pnp group in 2e, I'd probably chuck the official rules and have house rules that allowed the banned race/class combos.

I do agree that there's no particular reason that halflings couldn't make perfectly decent wizards. Indeed, they'd probably be excellent candidates for a rogue/wizzy multiclass combo.
