Well, it looks like now we know a little bit more about Miers views on Roe vs Wade:

    (from WaP )

Also, her friends seem to have given assurances that she would vote to overturn Roe vs Wade
    (from here )

Democrats were awfully quiet about Miers so far. I wonder if this will affect their position.

As a digression, One of the persons trying to get Roe vs Wade overturned is the lady who was the original Roe, later on undergoing a change of heart and pledging to work for the overturning of that verdict. Well, it looks like Miers is perhaps going to shift the balance in the court. I doubt democrats would have expected a pro-choicer to be nominated by republicans.

I posted a couple of weeks ago a very similar topic. Basically, it stated that Roe v. Wade is safe, at least for now. Even if both Roberts and Meiers voted to overturn it, the only other justices on the court that favor overturning the decision are Scalia and Thomas. In other words, it would take a third appointment by Bush to get Roe v. Wade overturned. Assuming that Meiers gets appointed, a vote on Roe v. Wade would end 5-4, in favor of maintaining the ruling. The most likely person to resign/die in the remainder of Bush's term is Justice Stevens, who is presently 85. Stevens feels very strongly about Roe v. Wade and says he has no plans to resign so long as W. remains in office.
