I had a lunch meeting today at a little hole in the wall restaurant. Glancing at the beer list, they had many unique microbrews.

One that caught my eye was MontyPython'sHolyGrail (one word on the menu) for $6/bottle.

I don't drink at lunch, but I'm going to try that this weekend!

Anyone heard of this, or other unique microbrews?

The only microbrewery I know of was in Escape from Monkey Island. :shake:

Actually, it was microgroggery there. :p

Ha ha ha! I'm playing Monkey Island 4 now.

But in answer to your question, I've never been to one.

My cousin's local bar is a micro brewery in Oslo. Excellent beers.

The "Oslo Pils" is an nice light lager at a reasonable price for Norway. About £4 or so for a pint. (Well half a litre, but you know what I mean.)

I shall sample some of the others next time I'm over! And try to find out if they have any that are interestingly named.

The Pacific Northwest has almost as many microbrewries as it does coffee shops! I actually never drank beer (even through 4 years at Penn State) because when I was growing up, beer meant Budweiser or Miller and that stuff is just horrid. But when we moved out west and I discovered McMenamin's Terminator Stout, or Deschutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter, or Portland Brewing's MacTarnahan's Scottish Ale - well, it was all over!

The Bridgeport brewpub (my favorite was their Blue Heron ale) even uses the leftover brewing mash to leaven the dough for the pizzas served at the restaurant!

Ah, let me tell you, Riverside CA has one of the finest micro-brewerys in the world. of course it's called The Riverside Brewing Company or R.B.C. to us locals, they feature unique and tasty brews named after some of the history of the town. such as "7th street stout", "Pullman pale ale",(if you mix the two you get "Stale ale" not on the menu but you can ask for it), and a few others. One of the nicest features is the "119" it's a different brew every month, and around April the "119" is orange blossom (Riverside's main claim to fame is our now dwindling orange groves) it's absolutely one of the best beers ever. if Chev ever gets to try it i'm sure he'll agree. Oh, and the food there is fabulous, wood fired custom pizza's and every type of pasta you can imagine. o.k. i'll stop, you get the point. if any of you find yourselves anywhere near Riverside CA, drop me an E-mail and i will give you a personal tour and buy you dinner and brews at the R.B.C. :thumb:

Damn! I don't drink, Greenlion, but do I still get dinner? You can drink my share of the liquor!

If I were to be a drinker, I would be the type who is trying something new every weekend -- I'd probably have a bar in my basement and have a huge book full of cocktail and shot recipes.

[IMG] In 1997, I went to California on business for a week in San Fransico. The woman I went with wanted to go to Napa Valley and tour a vineyard.

On our way to Mondavi, we stopped in the town of Napa, and guess what festival was going on?

A microbrew fest!!! A great time! Tons o' beer...In the middle o' wine country!

Yes, yes, dinner is a "go". even if you're not a "drinker" one pint won't kill you.

My previous offer stands to all S.P. members, just give me at least one day notice :D

*Racking brain for Greenlion's infamous "previous offer"

If it was shaving "unmentionables" cout me out.

If you want to drive to Chi-town so I can buy you a pint of HOLYGRAIL lager ... its a deal! (WHAT! We have the Borg & Tie-Fighters, but no beer graemlin? :shame: Oh well, at least we have :coffee: :D )

The offer is a serious one, as for the shaving, "no way in hell" and quote me on that one :thumb:

when the subject of micro-brews emerged, i just had to brag about the R.B.C. after doing so I felt bad for those S.P.'ers that will never get a chance to enjoy the place.

"what the hell, why not", i says to myself. so there it is, if any S.P. members wander this way and want to take me up on this one, cool.

And Mat...if i'm ever headed to "Chi-town", the first thing i'll do is let you know. count on it.
