I read in a FAQ which i cannot find again that there is a merchant on a roof top that only loads at night in one of the districts of the starting area, where is he, and why isnt there a FAQ that simply lists items sold to where it can be bought

    thanks doc

Could you please inform us on the definition of 'starting area' - I would usually use the term to describe the cells in Irenicus' dungeon, but since there are no mercheants there....

Most of the mercheants sell the same mundane gear, and you probably wouldn't go out of your way to find them. The notable exceptions are:
    Advernturers Mart (Waukeen Promenade)
Diedre (bonus mercheant - inside Adventurer Mart)
    Spell store (inside Adventurer Mart)
Spell store (North area of Waukeens Promenade)
    Bernard (copper corronette, near bar)
Joulev (bonus mercheant - copper corronette, near southern entrance)

There are also a few fences around the place including the south area of the bridge district, in the sewer, and in the thieves guild.
It wouldn't take too long to go to the above places, but I usually check them out when I am in the area and "have more than two gold pieces to rub together"

As for the FAQ, I've never seen one that lists all the items like that.

Well, i think you mean the fence who appears at the bottom right of the promenade, at night only. But he's not on a rooftop...

There's a halfling fence in the slums. He's on the rooftop of the Copper Coronet, right next to the temple of Ilmater. He only appears at night.

Also, none of those fences that appear at night sell anything of much value. Perhaps they might sell them a bit cheaper than you'd get at another store, but they only have basic items, at best maybe some +1 magic items, and the most common potions.

Some of the fences sell scrolls that are a bit harder to find. Things like Invisibility 10' radius, phantom blade or lesser elementals... not crucial, but I'm one of those people who like to have complete spellbooks.

But the one Belfalas wants sells nothing important. I think the only special item he had was a martial staff+3 or something unspectacular.
