Okay, so I'm trying to install Baldur's Gate using the Custom option, and basically installing all of the available components. However, apparently I only have 2047 free megs of memory for installation, while a full install, even with only an 80 meg cache, still exceeds this limit. How can I increase the amount of memory available?

Baldur's Gate was created when hard drives had a size limit of 2GB. If your computer is less than 5 or 6 years old, you should have a way bigger hard drive than that. However, because when BG was first made larger hard drives didn't exist, that message always will pop up. If you tell it to install anyway, it should all fit.

-The install program can't "see" more than 2047 MB no matter the size of your harddisk. If you have 350 GB it will still only see 2047 MB. I think it's a Windows based issue(Isn't everything?).

-If you're unsure then go to "My Computer", right-click on the drive you intend to install the game on. Click properties and there you have the amount of MB/GB available.

    Just do as Aldeth said.

This game is from before FAT32 was mainstream, thus the FAT16 partition format (used in windows 95, and dos) had a maximum partition size of 2047.9 mb.

This topic deserves a sticky soon.
