    Dear All

Tal has very kindley given me the ok to let you know about a new site I have been putting together for older gits like me who love PC games. It was originally going to be a thirty something site but I'm not really that bothered.

So if you fancy seeing gaming from an older viewpoint, take a look at www.maturegamer.net

If the site seems slow to load I apologise for the sometimes very slow server. It also gets better after you have loaded a page or two as the main graphics are repeated on each page so should load from your PC cache.

    Any constructive advice welcome :)

PS if you do leave any messages could you use the same name's you use here so I know who you are thanks.

PPS the server is really struggling tonight they are doing some upgrading at the moment (or so they say). So if it's too bad please try again another time.

[IMG] Nice idea, and promising too. Although the colours, particularly on the messageboard, on not too pleasing on the eyes (I'm seeing stars at the moment).

Congratulations on your new venture, it's a good idea and it looks like a lot of fun.

I was particularly pleased to see a site that used the word "games" inclusively, i.e. board games, P&P et al. I have masses of board games myself and have often wondered why "gamers" seem to be either board gamers or role players but rarely both. I'm glad I'm not alone!

On that subject, it was also interesting that P&P and board games were included in the same category. I've no doubt this is sensible now but maybe as your site grows you would reconsider this and expand your P&P section? I know that as a "mature gamer" I would welcome a forum dedicated to older P&P games like ShadowRun, or those elaborate hexagon-based map and token game systems that seem to be disappearing from game stores.

    Again- congratulations, looks great!

[Edit: I removed a paragraph about the guestbook/forums because it wasn't quite right- I sent an email about this instead.]

Thanks for the feeback everyone and thanks also to those that have signed the guestbook. Luan, I think you are right about the colours on the message boards. I think the blue, especially being so small, is trying on the eyes. I'll have a play with that again.

Sprite, I was very pleased to see your comments. I thought long and hard about whether to include a non-computer game section at all. I was worried that too many people never got into board games especially. In the end I thought hey its my site and I used to love board games :)

Anyway, I think you're right, I'll see how things go and modify the site to represent the interest shown. Maybe eventually it might be possible to facilitate board games via email or chat or forum or something. The main reason I don't play much is I can never find other players. One problem I am getting is finding decent info on board games particularly. So if anyone knows of some useful contacts/sites I'd love to hear.

As to the guestbook, I've tried resubmitting a message but it recognises me (and I can't find the cookie to disable it) and so I can't see what info it asks for. Looking at the other messages it seems to want a name, email, site address and message. It seems that you don't need to give a site URL and Tal managed to avoid giving out his email so I guess that should be possible. Of course if it diverted you to the site to get your own guestbook (I use a free third party company to host my guestbook) that would probably ask for more info. You've probably guessed that I'm clutching at straws here :) Oh well, could you let me know what info it insists on having and I'll see what options I have here. Alternatively, you could post a guestbook type message on the forums. I have set up a sort of welcome topic here:
    http://pub84.ezboard.com/fmaturegamerfrm1.showMessage?topicID=2.topic

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback.

The red certainly is a lot easier to see.

As for guestbooks, given the messages are only text, would you be better off to have one hosted directly on your own site (have an admittedly rarely replied one on my own site and the total space taken up, inc approx a dozen messages is about 20kb I think). It will also enable you to customise the options as to which fields are present or compulsory.

Edit: Although having just signed (very brief) your guestbook I neither needed, nor submitted an e-mail or homepage).

Another edit: Having a look at the reviews subbmitting page. Anyway, a suggestion or two for that form. Sound effects being compulsory. I can think of games where it is largely irrelevant, and as such - and also for the music a not relevant option might be an idea. As for difficultly 2,3 and 4 could alll mean the same thing, perhaps something along the lines of 1) consistentcy too easy; 2) challenging in places; 3) about right; 4) about right but with the odd too frustrating point; 5) consistently too frustrating. OK my wording isn't up to mch at the moment. Actually just assuming the asterisks mean compulsory, surely the review bit itself should be - plus specs?

Nice page. Don't like the animated gifs though.

[IMG] Hey, I *dig* the animated gifs! (The headline-fonts were also cool). The entire thing kinda gave me a flashback to the "start-this-game-from-DOS-or-else"-era.

(Blue links on a black background hurts my eyes a little, though).

Avooch i think that all depends on what your beliefs are towards gays.
