    Ok, Magic Resistance.
I just read, that the wizardslayer in ToB will get very high resistance, but that only works against spells like magic missile and the like right?
Because for the mind affecting spells, you just need a good savingthrow....
    Am I right here?

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that magic resistance works against alls spells directly affecting a character. (Area damage spells will effect in full capacity (fireball, abi whatever's wilting spell)...) That should include mind affecting spells, but perhaps not inate abilities like those utilized by mind flayers and such.

Magic resitance is just like Fire/Cold/Acid-resistance. It only works and spells that cause magical damage and not spells like charm/psionic blast etc. isn't it?

There are two forms of resistances.

    Resistance Vs. Magic
    Resistance Vs. Magical Dmg.

The latter works agains area of effect spells that does dmg and are not targeted directly on the Player.

The first works on every kind of spell that requires a saving throw and against Magical damage that is targeted on the player directly, except the ABOVE.
e.g Maze and imprisonment spells are not included

An example: Magic missile. You have 50% in both resistances.
Half of the missiles penetrates You "resistance to magic". They penetrate but are doing half the normal damage.

Eh, magic resistance effects everything magical except inate abilities.(ie. dragon breath weapon) It also doesnt reduce the amount of damage something deals if gets through it. And its based on luck. If u have 50% mr its not exactly half will be resisted. So anything that a hostile mage or cleric casts at you will be affected by the mr.

[IMG] I am aware of the "luck" Part. I am Sorry that that could be misunderstood. Bad Language I guess.
But are You sure that The damage dealt to one is reduced by half, if one has 50% Magic resistance?! I always thought of Magic resistance as an ALL or Nothing ability.

I thought that "Resistance to magical damage" was the measurement for the reduction of damage dealt?

Its nice to learn once in a while :)
