It costs 5000 gold and then you can cast spells on all the streets of Atkhala.

I would advise against it though.
Later in the game, preferbly after the underdark, find a nice wide area and cast Summon Nishiruu. Proceed to duel with every single Cowled Wizard that appears. Kill them all for excellent XP which might come in handy for Imoen, if she's around. After you kill a fair number of them, the cowled wizards will stop bugging you.
Sweet eh, to do what Irenicus couldn't.

Will they really stop after a while?

Oh, your pulling our legs . . . you naughty scamp you. :)

  6. [IMG] Yes, they will stop. It's a long fight, though. Eventually they send out a powerful Mage-Woman who is not fooling around, and she can be a problem if you don't have any pierce magic/breach-type spells left.

I think you can have it both ways, though. I think you can pay the 5k, then by using your magic "irresponsibly" at a later time, you can get them to attack you. Cast inferno in a bar or something...that would be a good test! :evil

Shura -- Not that it's a huge deal, but what will your strategy do to my reputation? Can't have people thinking I'm a common thug! ;)

[IMG] You're better off paying then off. Would you rather they attacked you from behind while you got into a minor skirmish with some vamps or thugs? ;) Always time to act "irresponsibly" later.

nice idea shura, anyway: There´s a bug in the german version of BG-2. The mage you ask for the license tells you it´s priced 50.000gp - obviously a typo for when you agree you do just pay 5.000 ...

By the way paying them off is advantages because when those guys fight you for the vorpal sword later it can be pain without magic.
