Logitech Talks about New Gaming Mice and Keyboard

    Logitech, the world's leader in the mice and keyboard market, has decided to storm into the realm of specifically gaming oriented devices. Gamecloud has talked to Ruben Mookerjee who is the Director of Product Marketing for Interactive Entertainment at Logitech about the G5 and G7 mice and the G15 keyboard with unique gaming features. Here's a snip:

    Gamecloud - First, how did the idea come about to create a new line of PC game mice and a new keyboard?

    Ruben Mookerjee - We are always looking to improve our products by better understanding the extreme demands of PC gamers. Earlier this year, we introduced drive-free sensitivity-switching in the MX518. This feature idea was borne out of a conversation with a few local gamers. Today, that feature is standard for our premium gaming mice.

    Since the introduction of the MX518, we have gathered feedback from literally thousands of gamers. We sought information from all types and levels of gamers on a worldwide basis – and we used this information to create some truly awesome extreme performance mice. Our newest gaming-mice, the first in the G-series product line, are the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse and the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless Mouse. Both feature 2000 dpi, a precision Gaming-Grade laser tracking system, full-speed USB, and advanced software that can be customized for gaming. Those feature, combined with new Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) gaming feet for an ultra-smooth glide and a braided mouse cord for less resistance make the G5 and G7 the top of the line for gaming mice today.

    Also, RPG Vault has managed to obtain extensive information from Fred Swan, Director of Strategic Marketing for Interactive Entertainment with Logitech in the US. Here's an excerpt:

    In the rest of the article, I'll go into cordless technology in more detail. I'll cover issues such as freedom from interference and fast response times. And I'll focus on the gaming application of these products because the performance required by game play is higher than even the most important productivity applications, such as searching the web for cheap fares to Vegas.

    Cordless technology offers great benefits: convenience, freedom of movement, uncluttered work areas, and fewer cord-snag related accidents. But, as a gamer, your primary concern is performance. If you can't play as well cordless, you'll choose corded. And until recently, that's what most gamers have done. But the current generation of cordless products performs virtually identically to corded ones. There is no longer a reason to hold off on making the transition to cordless.
