    OK .. I think this one's a tough question ...

I like to run games as "high priority" ... BUT with a normal install you are linked via the start menu or desktop, in my case the start menu ... but that link links you to "baldur.exe" which is that splash screen/play, configure, etc menu

my problem is that when I right click that link and select "start at high priority"(this can be done via a registry edit) it makes "baldur.exe" high priority NOT BGMain.exe which is the file that is actually what I want to be set as high priority

I've tried setting BGMain.exe as the link in my start menu, while it opens, it quickly crashes and gives me this error:

What really puzzles me as there is nothing in the D:bad: drive... and there is nothing that points to it in "baldur.ini" .. as my CD is in drive I:bad: which is a virtual drive, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it, but wouldn't it give me an error opening it normally? I'm thinking it has to do with some setting in "chtin.key" but it's encrypted or something and I wouldn't know what app to use to edit it

*** OK, this is the basic question for those with A.D.D.: :p

Does anyone have any idea how to open directly to the game bypassing the start up menu?

my specs: windows XP home SP1, Directx 9c, P4 2.8c Abit IC7-G 1 gig PQI dual channel RAM, ati radeon 9800 pro, creative audigy zs 2 (I know it's overkill :p )

[IMG] With specs like that, why on earth would you need to run the game as high priority? That system's way too good for BG1 as it is.

The assertion path has nothing to do with your computer; that path indicates where the game was compiled on one of BioWare's machines.

    yea .. I guess I'm a bit finicky,

Though I was thinking there must be a way to tell windows to run a specific executable at high priority .. then I could do the same with other games that have a splash screen/menu

hm .. don't know why I didn't think of this before you just run it from command line with start /high

I put a shortcut in my quick launch bar that linked straight to BGMain.exe.

You should be able to modify the pre-existing shortcut in the start menu. Just right click on it and click properties. Under the shortcut tab, in the line that says target, just replace baldur.exe with bgmain.exe making sure to leave to quotes. I don't see any reason for this not to work, I've never had problems with it personally.

Let us know if you need any more help.

There's an easy way to run a game in high-priority(well, i know its called high-priority... but i dont know if this is what your after).

When the game is running alt-tab, alt-ctrl-del to bring up the task manager, click the processess tab, find the game on the list, right-click and you'll see 'set priority'. Select the desired priority from here.
