Level Limits or an XP cap in this game?

I've read conflicting information on this issue (with ToTL installed).

Which is it in this game: A level limit (30) or an XP Cap (8,000,000)?

    TIA

    Good question !
According to the manual in HoW the level cap is 30. So I guess they used the xp-cap to make sure you don't go beyond that level.
So *afaik* when you hit level 30 you stop gaining xp.
(The cap for wizards is for instance 7.500.000)

There isn't a real XP limit, they just stop counting when you can't gain levels anymore.

    I played with a human cleric29/mage30.
With my fighter30/druid30 they stopped counting XP at 5,500,000 for each class.

In a normal party of 6 game no character gets near 3,000,000 even with ToTL.

I've never finished this game, moslty because I get slightly bored, and pick up another game, but now I'm having another go at it, and I'm wondering:
When (read: If) my singleclass Thief reaches level 30 first of the group, he'll stop gaining xp. Will his share of the group xp be wasted after that, or will group xp be divided on only 5 after that?

How much xp can each character gain if you're playing a 6-member group, normal settings, and have HoW and TotL installed? (As in "how much do they get", not "what's maximum attainable level")

At what levels should I start playing HoW and TotL respectively? (If they are seperated from the areas of the original adventure, that is) I think at least TotL will take me to all new areas, but I'm not sure about HoW at all.

Thanks a lot for helping me out :)

@Marvin^42, I tried to figure out some answers:
    Afaik it is wasted :(

I got between level 21-26 in the end ;)

Wait untill all your characters are at least level 9 before going into the expansion :D

Also, find the HoW FaQ here
    ;)

Thanks a lot for all that info :)
I've still got a question or two though ;)

In what order should the games be completed? IWD, HoW, TotL?

If I follow the man who takes me to HoW areas, can I go back to IWD areas later?

Can I go back to HoW areas after going to TotL?

What levels are appropriate for starting anew on HoF mode?

Thanks for taking your time :)

This question has been ansvered alot of times. you could just search for it.

But in short the most "correct" path is finish IWD1, start a new "expantion pack only game" and import your characters. then you can jump to TOTL at any time during the HOW game as long as you do it before the end.

[IMG] No, that's not true... you have to start ToTL while you still have access to Lonelywood... later on, you go to a place from whence you can't return there to initiate the transition to the ToTL areas.

Thanks for telling me :) Will I see it coming?

When I searched, I found someone had said "Do TotL at once when you enter HoW areas". Do you agree on that?

No, there's no need for that (unless you want to, of course - but some ToTL areas are pretty hard... I'd rather wait for a while after HoW starts). You can delay it until when you hear the barbarians telling you to stock up in Lonelywood because you probably won't be returning there for some time (turns out it's more like not, at all). Actually, I'm not even sure if it's spelled out openly, but I remember having a feeling I'd better finish up the accessible areas and stock up before going on that journey...

But if you want a spoiler of where exactly the point of no return is, that can be provided as well. ;)

Hey Tal, can you PM me a spoiler of the last chances to finish each area (the regular game, HoW and TotLM)? I'd really appreciate it. I want to do the whole game without exporting any characters.

    @klorox :
This has already been discussed here
Start the add-ons as late as possible, since the difficulty is increasing. ;)

Last chance to start HoW in-game: after you've found and placed the 6 badges in chapter6 (Go all the way back through Lower Dorns).

Last chance to start TotLM: Before you leave for the "Sea of Moving Ice" in HoW.

The best order for me is to finish IWD, export, and then play HoW, for reasons that are revealed in HoW. It makes more sense to finish IWD completely, then import your party into a HoW-only game. Works best IMO anyway :)
