[IMG] I'm taking a number of characters through Chapter 1 of the original campaign. I'm just wondering if the game gives out less experience points for kills/quests/etc. when set on Easy difficulty mode.

In a previous game, my wizard finished prologue and chapter 1 in normal mode and ended up with Level 9. He had Daelan and the occassional familiar and summoned animal. I only changed the setting to Easy for the final battle.

I stopped playing the wizard and started a new game with a sorceror/fighter/RDD, forgetting to reset the difficulty mode so it's on Easy all this while. I've almost finished Chapter 1 and it looks like at most I will only reach Level 8. I'm having Tomi this time and no familiars or summoned animals.

The documentation does not indicate that less XPs will be given on Easy setting. Anyone knows?

Edit - By the way, the sorceror_1/fighter_4/RDD_3 is female human so there shouldn't be XP penalties.

No, I don't believe the difficulty setting has any bearing at all on the number of XP gained for killing monsters. You may, however, encounter fewer monsters and that could impact your XP.

I would say that the biggest difference in XP that you are experiencing is due to character. The game weights the amount of XP due to what type of character you are playing...depending on which character you took first, sorcerer or fighter, will have an impact on the number of XP you gain for kills for the rest of the game.

If you want to maximize the XP you gain due to character class...always start with a Rogue...they get the most.

I think the XP rewards are the same no matter what the difficulty is. But there's an easy way to check. The next time you get into a fight, save the game beforehand, see how XP you get, then reload and do the fight again on a different difficulty setting. If you get differing amounts, you'll know the game is adjusting the reward due to the difficulty setting.

Okay, thanks david, I'll try it out.

Hacken, come to think of it, yeah, I believe my Rogue/Wizard (started off as Rogue) did end Chapter 1 with the highest number of XPs.

That's due to the Familiar and summons, I believe. They Lower your encounter level (party CR) and therefore you gain more XP. The exact same reason as to why you get more xp when you travel with a lowerlevel henchman.
