[IMG] I received a call from this company Profile Business Services who claimed that someone is attempting to purchase a block of domain names similar to our own. They refused to give any contact information for the potential buyer, but gave a list of domains that were going to be purchased and asked if we were related to the purchaser. When I replied "no," they asked if we were interested in purchasing the domain names to keep them from being used.

This feels like a scam...Has anyone used this site to register a domain name? Any suggestions?

They're apparently UK-based, so it's odd that they'd get in touch with you... let alone call. How did they get your number?

And yes, from a quick glance at the site, I'd say it's a scam collecting personal information and/or extorting money from existing domain owners by telling them that someone else wants to buy a bunch of domains related to theirs. If they were a legitimate business, they'd just register the domains and not call around to ask if perhaps you want to register them instead.

Those Terms & Conditions in small print pretty much spell out SCAM as well.

Finally (heh), if you surf around the site a bit, you'll see it seems ok from afar, but nothing can be clicked... so you can't actually buy anything on sale there.

In short, I'm pretty sure it's a scam.

That said, any individual can register whichever and as many domains as they want. But buying related-looking or misspelled domains isn't really worth it unless you're a big business that would be losing substantial income from thousands of people accidentally coming to the wrong site. Not to mention that you could be buying dozens of domains here if you wanted to cover all the bases.

These people are probably trying to cheat you into giving them your personal and credit card information so that they would "register the domains for you". Even if they did wind up only registering them for you, they'd probably charge you 10 times the normal rate (which is pretty much what 50 pounds for 2 years is).

If you actually need any domains registered, just contact me and I can do it for you properly or give you a few suggestions where to register them based on your needs. But stay away from that site.
