    What we asked:

Q: If any of the upcoming D&D CRPGs had an optional gay romance, would it bother you?
    (1566 votes total)

    No, provided it's completely optional (648) 41%
Yes, the idea itself bothers me (431) 28%
    No, I'd welcome a gay romance (345) 22%
Maybe, I'd have to see it first before I could say (142) 9%

The wide majority of participants in the poll (41%) voted that an optional gay romance in any of the upcoming D&D CRPGs would not bother them, provided it is really completely optional.

On the other hand, 28% of those who voted are bothered by the sheer idea of a gay romance in a D&D CRPG.

For yet another different angle, 22% of the people who voted would actually welcome a gay romance.

Lastly, 9% of poll participants were not sure whether a gay romance in D&D CRPGs would bother them, and would rather reserve judgment until they actually see how it is implemented.

Hmmm, I was in the minority. That makes a change.

I was in the majority. Really, I don't see any big problem in have a more diverse romance selection.

Unless it's boring or gets in the way of the rest of the game - then I'd object to it. Or if it encouraged behaviours that would be inappropriate for a segment of the target audience of the game (i.e. kids).

What's that got to do with the romance being gay? This could be said about each and every single part of the game.

Exactly, so I would have answered any similarly worded poll question the same way.

Since when are 1500 people voting, I remember not long ago that there were only about 500 people voting, sometimes less.

It's the new design is it? Are there more sorcerers place visiters than before Tal?

Given that the current poll only has 165 votes I would have to say that the high vote count probably just reflects that the topic was somewhat more interesting/controversial than the norm.

Personally I voted "No, provided it's completely optional". As far as I am concerned if I can opt out of the romance it doesn't make any difference to me if it is included for someone who would enjoy the game including a homosexual relationship.

Apparently, this poll was so interesting that other big CRPG sites posted words about it. Many people who don't usually read SP probably voted on that one.

[IMG] The new design has significantly increased the number of votes every poll gets. They're routinely over 500 votes now. But yes, this poll was special because it was linked on several other sites.

However, site-related polls always get notoriously little response. I guess people just can't be bothered to vote unless it's something exciting they're voting for. Too bad, really...

I would love to see the stats on the poll. I think when I voted (which was early in the week) the people that were bothered by the idea were ahead. To see that many votes, I have to wonder if there was a ballot stuffing campaign.

What "stats" would that be, besides the results already listed? You can't vote in the poll more than once, so I fail to see your point.

And no, there was no "campaign" either.

I think he means to see the evolutional graphs over time, since that would give a rude idea who voted what, since for example, the first votes would come from spers, especially the ones regularly voting in the polls, and then one could see how the linking on the other pages (probably) influenced the result.

Such tracking would be next to impossible. There's no way to tell when a regular SP visitor or someone else votes. Considering no extreme groups (i.e. no gay or gay-hate sites) of any kind voted in it, it's about as accurate as it gets.
