    What we asked:

Q: In (A)D&D computer games, do you ever create and play a main character of the opposite gender than you are in real life?
    (1425 votes total)

    Yes, sometimes (463) 32%
    No, never (386) 27%
    Yes, but rarely (311) 22%
Yes, most of the time (205) 14%
    Yes, always (60) 4%

In CRPGs, almost a third of the poll participants (32%) sometimes play a main character of the opposite gender than they are in real life.

A bit more than a quarter of those who have voted (27%), however, never play a character of the opposite gender.

22% of those who have participated in the poll rarely play main characters of the opposite gender than their own, followed by 14% of those who do it most of the time, and lastly 4% of those who always play a main character of the opposite gender than they are in real life.

I think the 27% are just scared to roleplay ;) In an RPG, you're supposed to RP. Not just G.

Unless there's significant differences in gameplay (like the BG2 romances for example), I find it hard to roleplay the opposite gender. I end up playing the female character as if she was a male, which defeats the purpose. In games where you create the entire party (IWD) I do like to mix and match, and in fact tend to always have "couples" in my mind when I create the characters. Much more fun that way.

I would say I frequently play a male but it depends on the game. BG I & II I tend to play a male but Oblivion I play a female. Arcanum I play both. Some games don't give a choice.

BG I&II and Oblivion always male, NWN I&II and IWD I&II always female.

I always have done both genders for BGII, IWDII and NWN (Don't have BG and have never installed IWD). My main character is almost always male and my main back up is almost always female. The theme of that particular character typically decides gender as does alignment (LE and CG are almost always male, while LG and NE are almost always female).

Depends on how hot the female portraits and avatars are.

I almost always use both genders, often because of differences in gameplay, romances etc. but also just to see how the characters look.
