[IMG] That poor girl...I can't believe she's only asking for $50,000! It should be at least 500,000!!! How can a school ban a girl from being the captain of the cheerleading squad just because she violated two laws that showed she may be a bad example of behavior by a high school student.

Shocking, just shocking.... :spin:

And that little bit of rhetoric serves what purpose? I live in the USA and can almost GUARANTEE that I am smarter than you.
It is great to discuss these crazy abuses of the American justice system, but let's keep the insults and general foolishness out of it.

    On topic:
Typical abuse of the justice system. It disgusts me. Much of the world is living in a shack and these people are wasting time, resources, money, and karma on nonsensical shite like this.

As a citizen of the US, I can say that many of the people in this country suffer from a terminal case of "lack of gratitude". I doubt very much that this is strictly an American phenomenon.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, its just in the USA its fully developed. Over here (UK) we are just in the "Trip or fall at work?" "Drop hot tar all over your self" "lets sure your already struggling employer, and we might as well sue the council as well, and your mum" "Its also no win no fee"

People are just greedy for money, hopefully it wont be quite as bad here as most can remember the winter of disscontent in the 70's and the depression of the early 90's. But its getting worse they have taken over Channle 5

Frightening. I am sorry that your country is becoming similarly afflicted.

I think that in the US things like this are unfair, that people because of the football or cheerleading skills can get easier into college. You can even graduate from high-school if you are a good football player. A lot of exeptions are made for these people. These things have nothing to do with learning. You won't learn better English or history or whatever, because you play football. You should get into college because of your knowledge, not just because you can wave pun-puns in a short skirt.

If that was the case, there wouldn't be any good looking girls at school!!! ;)

If you look at it in the long run, those people who got into college and graduated just because they are on the cheerleading squad or football team never really 'make it' in life. Unless of course they go on to the pro teams. They almost never use their college degree for anything but a wall decoration. :rolling:

    Surely you mean Pom-Pom's ?

I agree with you that it is unfair that sport and other non-academic activites allow you to graduate easier. That is very unfair.

Unfortunately the same thing happened during the last term at my school (in england). Our headmaster was trying to catch people with drugs so had the police come in with sniffer dogs and do check on everyone as they left assembly. Anyone who was stopped then had to have a blood test. However those who were in the A teams and were stopped didn't have to have blood tests.

Not true. Chearleaders are rare in Holland and we certainly don't have chearleading squads in our schools, yet there are plenty of good looking girls.

In Holland there isn't actually payed any attention to if you are good in a sport or not. We don't have special sport teams. We don't have any after school activities in Holland.

    Yes, I probably meant those.

Hear, hear, Jack! All this bashing of America and Americans smacks of an inferiority complex -- you do realize that is how it is perceived, don't you? And it's boring.

Stupid lawsuits are filed and won every day, no argument there. But as far as a beef against jock scholarships -- I can't agree.

Life isn't fair. People try, in their little way, to even things out, and they should be commended for that. If I, who was fool enough to have children with a man I later divorced before finishing college, got special breaks for that -- would you really say I shouldn't have? Probably not -- you would probably say that, as my financial need was great, the powers were right to give me a scholarship. But is it fair? No -- I made foolish choices, and because of them got money that some other, equally talented, student, who made only smart decisions, did not get.

So someone wins the genetic lottery and gets a scholarship because of his talent on the football field. Good for him. Why not?

It's a dog-eat-dog world. Any ability you have which would make you more capable to fend for yourself in society should be rewarded...that means brains, not brawn, unless you're planning to be an athlete, a bodyguard, or a marine. Methylviolet, I think your scholarship was deserving because it gave you a chance to make UP for the stupid choices you'd made. The smart-choice smart-girl, not being similarly burdened with children, could get the college money some other way almost as easily.

Ah, I came too late and missed the dumb lawsuit discussion. :( This is going to be completely :offtopic: now, but I'm going to post it anyway. The must ludicrous example I can think of is the case (which is probably made up since I only heard it from a friend) in which a burglar falls and hurts himself on a loose piece of masonry or somesuch and then proceeds to sue the householder.

Lazy Bonzo, I don't tihnk so, I heard about that incident too. Though if it's just a joke, I don't know since I never saw a link. But if it's true, it's frightening.
