Last battle in hell with Irenicus + tactic

Ok I got wipped out about 10 times last nigth and I really was annoyed...

The battle i am talking about is the last with irenicus in does 9 hell....

So here how my best try go...

I get every one buffed up with everything I got...

Then I open the door I get some chat with irenicus then a black screen come up and he say he stolen equipement form me (must be somehting from tactic to make the game harder but losing crom fayr and my anti-drain life amulette is annoying...) so here ar emy opponent

1)The dragon of pride which is as strong as a dragon and got some vampire ability to take level which is REALLY annoying

2)Blackrazor sword (it like a mekordian sword except that it is fast as hell , dispact any of my best figther in about 6 seconde , and that look immue to everything) someone got a clue to beat this sword....

3)A wraith that look like sarevok he is not a big problem he is immue to almost everything 2 but no big damage...

4) a BIG beholder I think it is as strong at a hive mother... no big deal...

5)Irenicus in is mage form

Ok so the battle start here what I do...

1) ALL the ennemy start behind me and come attack me little by little first come the dragon , then blackrazor , then the saravok looking dude , then the beholder and finnaly irenicus...

2) Before all that i get Kelsey cast time stop... I run with hium to the dragon I cast 3x Dragon breath ( I really want to kill him first since he drain level) then hte time come back to norm and the dragon is almost all the time badly injured...

3)The blackrazor sword go on my left defence of the battleground ( the dragon attacking rigth)valygar and jahaira try to stop the sword i get jahaira cast creeping doom and the sarevok dude and the sword which did not work then i get her cast earthquick on the sword before valygar get all killed

4)In that time imoen cast coment on the dragon and i get my monk pc on the dragon with all is oversigth mod ability (he is level 29) the dragon push him back then keldorn cast is remove magic ability crap then finish off the dragon (the draogn only dranied level to keldorn and kelsey this time which is good)

5)In that time the battle with the sword and the sarevok continue but it too late valygar even with is 10 attack per round ( because of is whirlwind ability) get wipped out by the sword and the sarevok dude...Jahaire still hold and I send my PC as reinforcement i get him to a solar stance to repush does crazy inkillable guys then i run at the sarevok dude with my PC and cast triger strike and strike him for a long time I leave my PC there... In that time the sword is back on Jahaira and even with Iorn skin and all her minor buff the sword past the defence and start wipping her (I get her healed serval time with full heal but it wortless)....

6)In that time kelsey and keldorn have did a big turn to kill the beholder and irenicus casting stuffe on my dudes since the begining and making them waeker..weaker and weaker well i want to cast tiem stop again but I realyze that he got drained 5 level YOUPPY keldorn only 1 so keldorn charge and kelsey cats minor spell on the beholder nut here the fun part irenicus cast that annoying killing cloiund and kelsey lost is save and die and jeldorn tooked 77 damage keldorn d'ont last long i get him buffed with hardiness , i make him cast an angel and finally i make him cast a critical strinke on the beholder which by big big luck take the beholder (not a normal beholder it count as a mother hive i guess) but keldorn did is best and fall to the soells of irenicus...

7)Until Now i killed 2 foes on 5 which is my best score (lol.....So my PC still on the sarevok dude cast dragon fist (which remove the defence of a ooponenet) (My PC is at half of is health now i make him drionk potion of course but it not egnough)i make him big damage but he heal himself..... then the sword finnaly cut down jahaira when she gots no more potion and heal stuffe runs on imoen she can hold a little because of her stoneskin and otherdefence spelle (of course sinc ehte begining i make her cast stuffe)but she c'ant hold long and it ends there.... for imoen

8) finnaly only my PC stand (level 29 monk)I make him run everywhere cats solar stand , cast shadowless kick , cast tiger kick and other crap but i can last forever and it the end 2 foe on 5 have fallen and that is my best try

N.B : i did not describe everything of course i drinked potion did minor change doe sare only the main events...

So here my question after a pathethic best try like that what can i do againt him it seem a bit impossible..

That's a toughy. I'm not sure what I would do, but here's some tips:

When you're after the dragon, use Protection from Negative Energy buff from your clerics. It protects against level drain. Make sure you use AOE's to take out the dragon, since you don't wanna trigger it's SR directly. If it's badly injured after you cast three dragons breathe, try using some horrid wilting, two or three, and then focus on that sword.

It's a +2 sword iirc, (and I usually keep it after fighting the genie actually). Youmay want to try casting mantle on a character and tanking it that way. It would put a mage in the line of fire, but hey... he wouldn't be taking damage from +5 or lower weapons. Likewise if it comes during the battle with the dragon, you can use that to your advantage by hitting it with the AOE's and the dragon at the same time.

Otilukes Resiliant Sphere might be a good idea as well if you have it, so you take the sword out of the battle completely. I'm not sure how well imprisonment works here, but you might be able to just flat out imprison everything in the battle and not have to worry about killing them.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like you have the Shield of Balduran which... and this is the most beautiful thing I've ever encountered... reflects beholder rays BACK AT THEM! That's pretty self explanatory .

Irenicus isn't all that hard to beat either. I don'tknow if you have anymore than four 9th level spells, but if you took edwin, or maybe if kelsey has that manyspells, you can use spell strike. Irenicus has a nasty habit of somehow casting spell trap through a contingency....... as well as other 6levl + protection sells, so you need to have 2 spell strikes ready, one for after the contingency goes off. Likewise having the warding whip helps a ton. It's a great spell.

At this point you should only be dealing with a beholder that's probably petrified itself, a dragon that's dead from AOE's a sword that's sphere'd, a wraith thing that can't do any damage, and an irenicus with no protections. (you need to make sure you kill irenicus when you remove his protections, because otherwise he's going to shred you apart and get them back.... again... But yea, you may want to have a wizard with trap spell ready to take on Iren.

The wraith should be easy to take out if you have that one ability to remove it's defenses, so you should focus on killing Iren after the dragon and beholder. You can kill the wraith after iren, and once otilukes runs out, you should have a full party, healed up with whatever cleric you may have that has HEAL prepared, and basically tank the sword with a mantle'd mage and pelt it with range.

YAY! I beat it a few months ago! And on insane difficulty no less!

Irenicus steals:Amulet of Power, Sanchuudoku+4, Crom Faeyr, and Cloak of Cheese. Just put those items to the ground before putting the last tear, after he talks and battle starts pick them up quickly! Do you smell the cheese already?

Knowing your opponents power and weakness is the key for victory, child.

1)Dragon is annoying and tough, he wing-buffets a lot to disturb casters and drains levels from them, so he must die FAST! Keep him busy with tough summons and kill him fast! If Kelsey wears theAmulet of Power though he would be invulnerable to his dreaded breath. He summons Wyverns on insane.

2)Magic misile is the key to kill the sword, prepare lots with sequencers and triggers and then unleash all of them on it! It should die fast! You can only damage it via magic damage:MagicMisile, SKulltrap or HorridWilting. MM is convenient though. It summons Mordenkainen's swords on insane.

3)That wraith is immune to ALL magic, as per protection from magic scroll. He has -25 AC Check your THAC0S, if they are -10 you need to roll a natural 15 to hit it! You see Valygar's GWW and 10 attacks per round is of little use. Use Critical Strike HLA instead while improved hasted, it gives you sure hits! Or have a tough kensai! Wraith drains STR each time he hits so be careful about your fighters. He summons wraiths on insane.

4)That beholder is DEADLY, it has a gaze attack which drains CON fast and kills everything in seconds, it has many protections PLUS Spell Immunity:Abjuration which makes 'her' immune to Breach adn Dispel Magic. Use Ruby Ray or Spell Strike on her and kill her ASAP, she is VERY VERY dangerous. She summons Beholders on insane.

5)Irenicus is tough and smart, but not as tough as his very last form (suprise!) you can kill him quickly with Breach and good attacks. He summons LICHES on insane. (I hope you have slightly improved mages and liches from tatcics for real fun! )

And that is the only first round of that big battle! There are three rounds and there is no save between them! Have fun! The final battle of a legendary game such as SoA should be THAT hard, high-tensioned and FUN!

Your telling me all does dude are only a first then i got to ebat more crap dam i am never gonna make it lol but i will try serval time just for fun are the 2 other rounds harder?

 

The next round is:

Irenicus VS your PC alone! He paralyzes all of the NPCs, takes all of your items and tosses them away, and turns into a hasted Slayer to cut you down! It is not that hard though. If you are a monk you can kill him, or run to your items, equip them(you won't be able to equip armor though) and kill him quickly.

Last round:
Real Irencius vs your party! he is much a like the first Irenicus in round 1, but he is much more powerful and smart, you can not touch him, he has infinite spells, he has SI:Abjuration and Divination and Imp. Invisibilty and continously casts PfromMagic Weapons which you CAN'T dispell, OR breach thanks to SI:Abjuration and continous invisibility. You can not target him with spells if you can't take out his invisibility. He is HARD, tricky and VERY smart. try it, if you an't beat I will give more spesific strategies OK?
