A prestigious Microsoft-backed degree course in computer games, including software architecture, maths, graphic design and business skills, has failed to attract a single female. Here's a snip:

An industry which celebrates violence and the exaggerated female form might expect to be an all-male domain – but a university launched a frantic search today after a prestigious new computer games degree failed to attract a single woman.

The Microsoft-backed honours course has had applications from 106 male undergraduates, but now hopes to strike a gender balance by holding a series of summer camps.

Staff at the University of Derby said it believes the women-only taster days will persuade female students they have important roles to take up in the sector.

It seems that the industry is going to have to take the first step and make games that don't objectify and degenerate women. And then maybe the women might become more interested.

Of course, it could just mean that not very many women in the area are interested in working in the game design industry, can't afford the tuition, or don't have the time (too busy staying at home with the lil ones).

Why cant they just start off with an all male class. If the females want to join, they will. Does it just have to be from Day 1!

Objectifying women comes naturally for male hormones. If that is to be changed there must be female participation, be it via playing or making games. This should be an issue, not the issue.
