Last time I played through without going through the whole damn maze, because I found the secret door leading to the ogre mage. I want to finish it now, because Tal just told me there's a treasure hoard there ;) Problem is, the paths are too narrow and I think (not sure) that the kobolds respawn. Is this true? Anyway, what's in the hoard? Is it worth all the aggravation? What were your techniques? Did you give a couple of your fighters potions then send them on their way? Bec. Having a mage in these narrow tunnels is a liability

[IMG] IIRC it was wort it. At least for tons of firearrows, the XP and finally some stuff from your endgame opponents there.

My favourite tactica finally was to block a path of the labyrinth with two guarding fighters at each end (1 melee man [protected from missile weapons, so a plate armor or field plate is a must just like the girdle of piercing and boots of avoidance ;) ] + 1 ranged weapons fighter) and my thief or mage thief scouting the area before, firing a fireball to roast Kobolds at need.

I don't think it's worth the trouble, unless you want to get the sword 'vampires revenge' :)

Give the armour from firewine and the idol from the temple (same map as +3 berserking sword guy) to Ulcaster (the ghost). Just talk to him, you'll lose the items and get the sword. (The sword any good? Best sword in the game :))

The firewine ruins are the worst area in the game though, repopping kobold commandos, tight passages (you'll never get all your characters to go where you want) and lightning traps. Yes, don't you hate when a lightning bolt comes from the wall and starts to bounce across the passage like a wall of...erm, lightning. Instant death to anyone standing there, unless they can survive 20 lightning hits :(

As far as I know the kobolds don't respawn unless you rest before clearing the whole dungeon out. Oh, and ignore Volar, the sword is a joke. Literally. ;)
But as I said, for me it was worth it just for the arrows, let alone anything else. And it was a challenge.

    [IMG] Lord Blackmane:
Do you need totsc to get that sword? I WAS running straight BG1 (totsc & dsotsc loaded this time through) and Ulcaster did nothing with/for those items...What kind of sword is it anyway --- any alignment (or other) restrictions?

No, totsc is not needed. Just have the idol and the armor in your inventory and talk to Ulcaster. He does not say anything about them, but when you look in your inventory they should've changed. (It says lost item, lost item, gained item in the prompt)

And no special restrictions, but it's a shortsword. Everyone should go solo through the game with that sword, not too hard :)

Correct. The idol id in the map where Brage is located, remember you have to fight that blurred doom guard.

Well I killed the ogre-mage without going through the maze full of kobold commando's. Just go to the Hobbit-village in the north. In one of the buildings there's a secret door that leads underground, it brings you to the maze where the Ogre-mage is.
