If you've already got the sword and the shield from the room, and you've already fought Semia and company, you should have already used the mask for all it can be used for.

In the same room Semia appears (but before you grab the items from the room to the north) there is an invisible guardian in there. That is to say, it is invisible unless you're wearing the mask. I believe it looks like a fire elemental or something similar. If you didn't have the mask it would be invisible and hit your repeatedly. However, if you already got the stuff out of the room above, then I assume you've already defeated it.

Don't throw it out though! It's a helmet that can be used by mages, thieves, etc. to protect against critical hits!

The helmet protects against critical hits?

But it says: "Other than that, it is useless" (sort of), thus saying that it can only be used to see the elemental...
But I have not played it for some time however.

It's a hardcoded engine limitation that anything in the helmet slot protects against critical hits.

@CamDawd: Even Ioun Stones? If so, then this helmet *really* is pretty much useless, since thieves and mages can slap on one of those instead.

There are three. One gives regeneration, one gives a THAC0 +1 bonus and the last gives +1 to Armour Class.

I think you can also see the invisible guardian if you have a true sight spell cast or if Keldorn is in the party.
