I was just wondering if anyone here has had any training in the following:
    • Ken jutsu (sword arts)
    • Tanto jutsu (knife arts)
    • Tameshigiri (sword cutting)
    • Aiki jujutsu (unarmed combat)
If you or someone you know has had training in any of the above, tell me about it. List some things that you think others should know before they begin training, high points and low points in the training, and anything else you want to say about it. :rolling:

I've practiced the Jiujitsu (unarmed) and personally I find it a very good fighting style. It covers most bases, from long distance to grappling. (just not armed, as far as I know) If someone is new to the martial arts scene, this would be my first recommendation.

Huh? Sounds like you pulled a “Bart Simpson”. Surely the first lesson isn't going to be a hardcore fighting lesson. What went wrong? :rolling:

Given my bad knee, I'm a little leary of taking any martial arts classes. Any suggestions? i'm thinking maybe buying a pistol and learning to shoot well -- that falls under the dictionary definition of a martial art!

Well, how bad is your knee? If it isn't too bad I would recommend a martial art that uses mainly the arms...like Ken jutsu, Tanto jutsu, or Tameshigiri. Sure they require you to walk, run, and maybe even jump, but I doubt your knee will take a beating. I suggest that once you find a martial art that you like, call up the instructor and tell him/her your situation and see what they have to say about it. :rolling:

Well, I'm a black belt in the style kajukenbo, which stands for

    ka- karate
    ju- judo and JUJITSU
    ken- kenpo
    bo- boxing

Its pretty much a funtional style that teaches you to adapt to any situation, and I find it very affective. The jujitsu and jusdo stuff though is pretty much entirely grappling, though, so I don't know the full thing about it. But all of my Japanesse rpg characters have kenjutsu kyujutsu and tantojutsu, etc.

Depaara, I have pretty bad knees as well, but that doesn't stop me from taking martial arts.

[IMG] Man, this makes me jealous, its not fair! I realy-realy-realy want to take ju-jisto. I have wanted to take something of the sort ever since I can remember but have never had the money (or time). I know this question is ridiculous, but could anyone here possibly help me out. Tell me any way I could get started with very little or no funds at all!?

    Please!
