Jan Jansen's spell slots missing?

    I was planning on taking Jan Jansen into my next party through BG2:SoA, but had a 'bad hunch' about him so decided to check.

    And lo and behold, Jan Jansen ONLY gets spell slots as if he was a plain-vanilla mage. He doesn't get the extra spell per casting level since he's and illusionist but does get illusionist restrictions.

    However, Imoen gets extra spell per level even if she's not supposed to. And if I create a gnomish illusionist/thief myself, then everything works allright.

    What gives??

    Nobody says loving the little fella is easy. Just appreciate his personality, rather than oggling his spell slots. ;)

    You sure about that Jukka? I removed his 'illusionist' profession in SK and it took away a spell slot and placed him at normal mage spell slot.

    Maybe it's your version? *shrug*

    Some NPCs are plagued by odd bugs when you take them in, particularly when it comes to spellcasters and spell slots. Edwin for example has a few more spell slots than he's supposed to if you take him early on (level 9 IIRC). However, once you level him up, his spell slots reset to what they're supposed to be (which means, in practice, that he doesn't gain any!).

    Try leveling up Jan and see if things work well then. If not, I have no idea what the problem is. The thing is, spell slots are controlled by one 2da file for ALL characters of the same class. There's no way Jan could have his own spell slot advancement chart. And since specializations are hard-coded, if he gets limitations, then he's definitely getting the extra slots (as confirmed by Abomination).

    Again, I say try leveling him up once. If there's a bug, this should fix it.

    Leveling Jan Jansen up did the trick and resetted the amount of spell slots to what it should be.

    I double-checked on Edwin, and yes, he does get three extra spells per level. One for being a Conjurer, and two from his amulet. By far the best mage in the whole game, beating even sorcerers in their own job. (Apart from the freedom of choice in casting spells, that is.)

    With Edwin, the extra slots I was talking about are ON TOP OF the 3 extras he gets from specialty and his amulet. It's an oversight in his CRE file, just like with Jan I suppose.
