When you initially set the Item Level, the toolset randomly assigns the item some properties that will keep it within the range you set. However, the required level is a function of the properties, so once you change those properties, the required level will also change. Best thing to do when creating your items is to assign one property at a time, then go back to the basic tab and see what the required level is. It's not hard with some of the more interesting properties to get an item with a high required level.

That's one of the annoying things implemented in NWN. Although, it does prevent people from having and creating ultra-powerful items.

The limit is way too easily reached in my opinion.. and I think it's just a planned thing so we have to buy an expansion to actually create any powerful items.
I don't like such limiting at all.. killed my interest to the editor pretty well.

If you don't like the item level restrictions, then turn it off.

[IMG] In your nwnplayer.ini, change "Single Player ItemLevelRestrictions=1" from 1 to 0. Save file, run game, and you're set. I believe this will only work for single player though.

Pretend, actually I think it's there to maintain some game balance. Without it, any player could go in and create some uber-weapon for their character and presto, super-character. Given that NWN is primarily a MP game, and most MP games in the past have been severely hampered by the multitude of min/max and munchken-type players, developers were probably just hedging their bets ;) This simple little limitation just means that you should be a certain level before you get certain powerful items. Most of the time, it makes sense, and I've only been annoyed a few times - still, I've managed to get around it everytime without making any changes to the .ini file. Besides, it makes *sense* that a 5th level character should not be walking around with a +3 vorpal/keen greatsword with renegeration that grants improved critical hit (greatsword) and increases strength :p

And one of the easiest (if not always palatable) ways of reducing the required limite, is to put in some minuses. Again, this makes sense for a low level character to have a powerful weapon - there needs to be balance.

Tal: Would that not work for multiplayer if all the player's made the change to the .ini file, or is that one of the restrictions the server checks for? Just curious.

I believe item level restrictions and enforce legal characters are server options for multiplay, so it's up to the server provider if they want to allow it or not.

He is. Of course, most servers I've seen have the checks enabled. Personally, I'd say having this feature is far better than the infernal hacked weapons we saw in Diablo 2.
