The first time I played through I was a Chaotic Good sorcerer and thought that I could justify to myself attacking the Tanner's guards to find out what I needed. Now I am a Lawful Good pally and I can't sleep a night knowing that the tanner is guilty but I can't find anymore info to get him caught lawfully. Can anyone help? :(

Mind that you need two pieces of evidence to proof that the tanner is guilty.
    My fav way:
1 - talk to a beggar (you find him on the way from lieutenant Aegisfeld to the five flagons inn) and get a rare piece of hide, then go to the trader and he will identify it for you).
    I did it like that

2 - go to the tanner and talk to him, he will say the evidence is not enough and go away (to hire guards (which results in more xp for you the next visit :D )

3 - now go to the prostitute Rose and tlk to her and she will tell yout Gurilberries. Buy some at the fat trader and go back to her and she will give you the last piece.

4 - Here you have to decide what is lawful: Going to Aegisfeld would be lawful (law abiding) but will result in him getting killed. When you go to Agisfeld he will leave to the tanner's house.
Going there yourself will keep Aegisfeld alive but would mean taking the law in your own hands. Well, you can argue: (a) As a paladin, you are a force of rightousness and justice. (b) There is the risk the tanner could escape. (c) Maybe there are people in danger in his house that could die if you waste time calling up Aegisfeld. It's up to you ;)
Anyway, when you enter the house yourself, with both pieces of evidence found, the tanner will turn hostile immediately, so that, basically, you are just acting in self-defence :D

i always thought that the 'lawful' way of doing that one was to go and challenge him with the evidence. and then let him run. as you will catch up with him later

the Tanner will get away.. but you can catch up with him in Trademeet... (no you won't see him if you go to Trademeet before you fight him in the Bridge district, thats why i missed him the first time)... and the plot thickens even more...

Yes, taking the evidence to Inspector Aegisfield is the lawful way to go. As others have said, it does have some negative effects, but at least you'll get the murderer off the streets. (-:

Lol I love how we always refer to them as the "fat traders". For his sake I'll call him Bel Dalemark (that's his real name). Bel's a pretty good guy, if I have something to sell in the Bridge District rest assured I will sell to Bel. Fat trader. Pudgey bald merchant. Bel Dalemark. Whatever you call him he can hook you up with establishing your evidence in those Bridge District murders.

I'm playing a palladin and just didn't leave when the tanner wanted me to. After a bit he turned hostile and managed to escapte. THEN I went to Lt. Aegisfeld and got the XP.

    SPOILER:

Another bit in that storyline is annoying. As soon as I ID the guy in the Umar Hills that'll make the human hide armor (i.e., I buy the right book) I can't attack him. My lawful good desire to bring him to justice is thwarted! Alas!

Bel Dalemark doesn't get any respect even from the programmers. His sprite's name is FATMAN. *laugh*

Shralp, you can still kill that guy. Once you've bought the book, talk to him, he'll offer to make the human skin armor, proving his guilt. If you call him a monster, he'll give you his hint about being allied with the 'Rune' and try to escape; you can still kill him before he gets away. Or, you can pretend you're going to help him and then execute him while he's standing there. (-:
