[IMG] No at this time there is no board for beginners. But you could talk to Sorcerer about it. I think most of us who have been playing AD&D a long time will be happy to help.

Feel free to ask your questions regarding any of the games in the appropriate forums. No matter how simple they are, even better. Those are easier to answer. ;)
If you need to know something that might or might not be a part of any game, or just general rule explantions just ask in the Whatnots forum.

[IMG] Here's one bit of knowledge that is good to know that, disappointingly, is not really covered in either the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale manuals: different monsters have different resistances to different types of damage. For example, skeletal creatures suffer greater damage from crushing weapons (e.g., maces, flails) than from slashing weapons (swords, axes). So, just by looking at the damage stats for a weapon, you might think that a long sword would do more damage than a mace, but with skeletons and their ilk, it just ain't so. Knowing this will help you out a lot in the Vale of Shadows.

I suggest you turn on the "display to-hit rolls" option under game controls. You'll be able to see exactly how much damage you're dishing out and adjust your weapons accordingly.

Another thing I just thought of . . . make sure you read the spell descriptions. It's natural to gravitate toward offensive spells, but IMHO, mages and clerics both serve their parties better by buffing them up with defensive spells. Many times, even the toughest battles can be won by only two or three fighters, provides they have been buffed up with haste, prot. from normal missles, prot. from evil, strength of one, prayer, recitation, etc., etc., etc.

Sorry to drone on, but this might help you out a lot.
