Is it cheating if you abuse a glitch/bug (i can't tell the difference) so you can keep all the stuff in your inventory at the beginning of BG2 SoA?

And what is the the TotSC Plate Mail +3 I have it in BG2 but That armour doesn't have a name or description and I can use it with amulets, rings, cloaks of protection. Why is Plate Mail +3 like this in BG2?

Yes it is somewhat cheating (You've used the pause trick :hmm: ).

DO you have any mods installed (some will allow you to use enchanted armory and protective items together)?

A BG2 magical plate mail isn't supposed to be usable with protective items!

Yes I used the pause trick :) I just thought right now that it can't be cheating if you can do that without CLUA right?

No I have no mods if I did I wouldv'e gave my charcter the cloak of protection +2. I know it's plate mail +3 because I saw the name in BG1 and in BG2 that platemail +3 has no name now or no desription. If you don't believe me I'll show you a screenshot of it tommorrow cause right now it's my bedtime :( (i hate bedtime)

It's 'kay :thumb: I believe you.
Might be a glitch, but it's probably 'cus the Plate Mail +3 is well, it's another item so to say in BGII, and a problem might have happened during transition (You're not supposed to have that Armour anyways :nono: :p ).
If you really, really, really want to keep that plate mail, just use CLUA or shadowKeeper to get a new, BG2 compatible one :)

But then Korgan will have to lose the Cloak of protection +2 which will lower his AC to -8....

I'm allowed since I still have it

Yes it does...except you can equip a protection item (ring/cloak/amulet of protection +1 or +2) also.

See? Boo was hiding that stuff in his cheeks.

Then Minsc must've been one uncomfortable ranger!

I wouldn't call it a bug or a glitch - that's something the programmers didn't fix or finish. Pausing to keep your inventory is an exploit.

The general rule is if you have to ask "Is this considered cheating?" then it's probably cheating.

C'mon, you're not supposed to do that. "I don't think it's our gear. They probably sold our best stuff." Remember, that's part of the plot?

You should be allowed to keep a couple things, but not everything. They say that you get lesser versions of the equipment you lose, but I never found anything extra when I let it go. I don't know if that was a bug that was fixed in a patch or ToB, or if it's just supposed to be that way, but that's how it happened originally and I didn't take too kindly to it. So I keep 6 things; what they are depends on who I'm planning to have in my BG2 party, since it's basically a one-per-person idea.

For example, the Two-handed Sword +3 (from TotSC) is a must for Minsc, though I would prefer to take a +2 instead for balance. So I usually replace it as soon as I can with the sword the genie gives you, and only keep the +3 long enough to sell it at the Adventure Mart. After all, I usually finish BG1 with more than a hundred thousand gold, so I think it's only fair I can keep something besides my pantaloons. :D

It's my way of making them keep the promise (that I thought) they made. Sure, I end up with items that are almost as powerful as the originals, but there are significantly fewer of them than if I were to just fill my inventory up to the top in BG1 and drop it all in BG2. :heh: When used in moderation to make up for 'shortcomings', I don't consider it cheating.

There are also intelligent items (not unlike Yoshimo's katana or Xan's moonblade from BG1) that refuse to be wielded or even touched by anyone other than their owners. Such items are notoriously hard to part from their owners (like Imoen's Belt, even though that's really just insurance that Immy won't die in the first dungeon), and are frequently the downfall of many would-be kidnappers who find themselves completely unable to disarm their intended victims. :heh: In this case, they simply enable our escape.

BTW, how stupid is Irenicus to leave your cage unlocked?

I guess it's kind of unfair that you can't find ANY of the things you had. But I kind of like the way you "start fresh" in SOA.

It never occured to me that Imoen's belt had an *actual reason* to be in the game. Is is that item that triggers the "I'm not dying here! I'm not!" -script?

    @Susipasti:
Yep. It also sets her minimum HP at 1 so she can't die. (Neat trick, huh? ) I decided to try it out once; I did over a hundred damage to Imoen (half of it after her little "speech") and she still didn't die. The Cowlies seem to have been able to remove it, though.

He must of not liked the Player Character anymore.

Imoen's Belt is what keeps Imoen the person that never dies!? I never knew that! I Ctrl+Y Imoen before and she wouldn't die. Ctrl+Y is a liar, it can't kill everything it can only kill almost everything.

BTW Last thing before i get back on topic again Why does the Two-Handed Sword +3 from TotSC turn into Harbringer +3 in BG2?

    [back on-topic]

But Imoen didn't know that Boo was hiding that stuff in his cheeks did she?

:( Yeah, I know what you mean. They changed the function to some sort of 500th level flame arrow or something (in my game it always does 1149 damage). I miss the exploding Ctrl+Y from BG1; now that was fun.
It's just an item code thing. All that gets transfered with your character is a reference to the SW2H07.itm file, so it grabs what it finds there. In TotSC, that's just a +3 sword, but in BG2 it's Harbinger. If you want a regular Two-handed Sword +3, the item code is SW2H20.

The same thing happens with the +3 Plate Mail from TotSC; it points to PLAT08.itm, which is normal but has no description in BG2. What you'd want there is a suit of "Doomplate" (PLAT12), which comes with a nice story to boot.
