I just started a new game of IWD2 on my old Win98 machine while my newer computer was tied up with the monthly defragmentation.

I'm playing a bunch of cowardly, greedy bastards for a change.

While playing, something struck me as odd. I tried to pickpocket the Iron Collar Mercenaries (along with everyone else in town) and used Powerword:Reload to ensure success. Needless to say I had a lot of failures. One of them was against the ICM. They were fairly tough to beat and gave my party a run for their money. They weren't by any means impossible, but they did require that I not hold back on my spells.

Yet later after reloading and convincing them to report for duty, I followed a cowardly tactic of letting everyone else fight the goblins and get killed, then I swoop in and pick off the survivors and loot the bodies of the fallen, both friend and foe.

The thing that struck me as odd was that the Iron Collar Mercenaries went down so easily considering how tough they were in the bar. I even tried reloading and engaging the second wave of goblins myself and didn't have as hard a times as I did against the ICM.

So, were they level drained between the bar and the palisade? Is there a way I could use DaleKeeper 2 or something to make them just as tough at the Palisade as they are in the bar or am I just imagining things? While I realize having effective defenders in the form of the Iron Collar Mercenaries would possibly make the palisade battle too easy compared to the challenge it normally is, it just strikes me as odd that they decayed that fast.

[IMG] I think they take a hit to HP at the final battle just to make sure everyone who is supposed to die: dies.
