Is infravision worhtless. Is it just for aesthetic purposes or does it actually give any bonuses while in effect?
To the best of my knowledge it does Sweet F.A. Ny help welcome

Every race except human has infrasion. Most have 120ft, IIRC some have lesser.

Basically, the only use it would have is if you have an all human party or are soloing with a human - but your monitor would have to be very, very dark to need it.

In PnP, infravision (via spell or natural ability) removes the night time/dim light penalties for THAC0. Since these aren't instituted in BG2, it really is as worthless as it seems.

If you're adventuring at night, infravision makes everything a lot clearer so even if it has no effect on your characters, it has a beneficial effect on you, the human player.

It has no benefit what-so-ever. Especially if you have marker feedback set to full (circles under players).

Actually, Good Berries is just about as worthless as Infravision.

I thought infravision helped you find hidden doors, like the one in the inn in the City Gates which hides a Lich... you know, the one with the Daystar.

If infravision doesnt help with that, and I dont have a thief who can detect traps, how do I find such doors? Eg: If I'm soloing, I cant start chapter 3 unless I can find the door which leads to Aran Linvail...

I believe every character has a chance to detect hidden doors--some races have higher chances than others and thieves get a bonus as well. Wait around long enough and the door will appear. A thief that is actively detecting traps will always find secret doors.

[IMG] Really..infravision is really uselees unless for its "help" on gameplay when at nights...it really helps me out to better see the screen heheheeh...
    :D
I thought that as it's on the books, elves and dwarves had greater chances. But the system of it is stil a mystery to me as my Monk always discovered the hidden doors before Korgan or Aerie!

I'm still trying to think of ways you could actually make Infravision useful. Institute the low-light THAC0 penalties, perhaps, or have it grant immunity to blinding spell effects.

Nope, still not worth it. :p

What about Magical Stone? That always struck me as quite useless.

    [IMG] On second thought...

Could there be hidden penalties for races without infravision when fighting at night? Perhaps a penality to hit or save?
