I think the swashbuckler is the best thief class (others may prefer assassins). The swashbuckler kit are the most capable fighters. However, they will never be as capable a fighter as a monk, ranger, fighter, barbarian, or (drum roll) paladin even with the bonuses. I think swashbuckler is an excellent class to dual to a mage after getting the open lock, disarm skills you need.

I have already written some things about Swashbucklers in your other post "Soloing with a fighter" but let's examine it again.

A swashbuckler is practically a fighter/thief in one class. He gains:

    - +1 AC upon creation
    - +1 AC every 5 lvls
    - +1 to hit, +1 to dmg every 5 lvls
    - Can specialize in any weapon a thief can use.

    He loses:

    - Backstab multiplier

That's a big problem. First and foremost swashbuckler was meant to be frontliner, but his Hp just can't support it. So go with an
Assasin, use a girdle of Giant Strength and see Backstab dmg >200hp.

[EDIT] I gave you reasons why to prefer an Assasin and try Baldur's Gate II & ToB Class FAQ if you want class info. It will help you.

Padine, instead of Having a go at Kull, just read the Manual. It says what they get this and that in there. :nono:
