The improved Abazigal in my game seems to be invincible. I took out Tamah and the runts with no trouble, and sqaushed Abazigal down to "near death" in relatively short order. Then the trouble started.

No matter how much damage I dish out to him, he won't die. I've spent upwards of 20 minutes real time on three different reloads trying to get him to die, easily doing upwards of 300 points of damage to him per round between summoned elementals, planetars, and my fighters (and simulacrum from Vhailor's helm) with greater whirlwind. It takes only a couple minutes to get him "near death," but no matter how long I beat on him I can't take him out. Any idea what the trouble is?

Just for experimentation purposes, click on him and hit Ctrl-Y. If he does not die, then yes, you definitely have a bug, if he does, then apparently you aren't doing enough damage. I'm not totally sure what the problem might be, but I do have some saved games that have the same problem with a different enemy. Try the above and tell me what happens. Note: Occasionally reloading does fix the bug.

Ctrl-Y doesn't do a thing to him. Any idea how to get past the bug? I suppose I could just delete the improved Abazigal files and fight the wimpy version. Since I've already done sufficient work to have killed the improved version, I guess that wouldn't be too terrible, though it would certainly be anti-climactic.

This is a bug with a lot of the "Improved Fights", just look at Weimer's Improved Tactical Encounters. My solution to get past it, imprison him. Since you have already legitmately beat him, go ahead and summon a scroll of imprisonment from the console and use it on him.
