Imoen's spell casting, Gaxx and the spell Project image

Why is it that Imoen has the spell casting capabilities of a specilaist mage?? She gets and extra spell every level.

Who or what is Gaxx???

How awesome is the spell Project Image? Does anyone else find this? It can even attack physically if required, despite what it says in the description.

PS: That magic sword summoning spell is immune to all Mind Flayer attacks, a real cheesy way to beat the Illithid is by sending three Skeleton warriors along with this sword and Project Image. Cast death with the image to get rid of Ulber Hulks. Strangely though Mind Flayers get destroyed by the undead but the Ullithid kill them very quickly.

 

It can probably be attributed to her belt or to the fact that Irenicus made her a master mage. Whichever you prefer, they're both plausible
Kangaxx is the Demilich that you get the ring of gaxx from. After I replay BG1 and try out PS:T, I'm gonna replay BG2 and fight Kangaxx this time. Anyways Everyone says Kangaxx is one of the hardest fights in the game. (Someone edit this or correct me if I'm wrong) He can only be hit by +4 and up weapons. Everyone says that he casts imprisonment all the time so you have to have protection against that, and I haven't seen one post yet that said they beat him without using "Set Traps". An ability I never used

 

I never ever use set traps.

I beat kangaxx with a solo dc Fighter/Mage by using casting Spell Immunity : Abjuration. After that it's not lethal to fight him anymore.

Melf's Minute Meteors is considered a +5 weapon btw...

I agree, Project Image - and Simulacrum - are fantastic spells! They allow for some almost abusive tactics.

Why do you think it's cheesy to use Skeletons, Mordenkainen's Sword and Project Image to kill illithids? I think it's fair assuming you have knowledge of their whereabouts like from scouting.

 

Well I use those tactics, its cheesy because the Illithid are meant to be tough opponents.

 

There be a lot of +4 weapons in game...
1 daggers, 1 short sword, couple staves, 2 halberds
woo! too much to hit gaxx

 

I slaughterd Gaxx on insane mode and thought it was moderatly hard, all I needed to do was cast pierce and lower resistance, with that all you have to do is cast silence, then hes dead(summon lots of elementals and melle him to death, I guess thats the word for killing a dead thing?)

 

I actually beat him almost entirely through brute force. I had tried a couple different tactics, including using the Slayer -- who Kangaxx imprisoned!! -- so I thot I'd give it a shot. I used a couple abilities (such as ring of the ram) on the demilich, but other than that, just pounded on him. I'm not sure whether he managed to imprison a couple of my guys first or not. I am fairly sure I did not cast Freedom after the battle, since the only place I used that spell was in the Underdark.

My main character was a dc Berserker/Cleric (I, uh, forgot Enrage grants immunity to imprisonment... yeah yeah) and the party was Minsc, Keldorn, Valygar, Aerie, and Imoen.

 

The Slayer Form can't be imprisoned by normal imprisonment spells. It can be that Kangaxx's imprisonment spell is different. ??

 

The slayer form can be imprisoned, becasue there's no saving throw against it...
How do you know he can't be imprisoned, because Kangaxx is the only foe in the game that uses the spell. (Maybe more on insane mode though...)

It is like an alternate berserker rage, the user is absolute immune to imprisonment.

Although the Slayer form can be killed by Kangaxx's Demi lich howl, which is similar to the 9 th. level mage spell Vail of the Banshee.

When i fought Kangaxx i took him down in 5 secs by changing into the slayer and getting close and personal (i play Core Rules) he never even cast imprisonment on me, can it be that kangaxxses innate imprisonment doesnt work if your in touching distance?

 

Hardly, he keeps imprisoning to his hearts content even in melee, but you say 5 seconds... he may not even have had time to use Imprisonment on you.

My guess is that the Slayer should have been immune to Kangaxx' imprisonment but that it's bugged because it's implemented as an ability instead of as a spell. Only a guess though.

 

I forget the name of the spell but it is something like wizards eye. It creates a floating eye that the wizard can use to look around with. The important thing is that it is immune to imprisonment(second hand knowledge)and if placed clocest to kangaxx should take up most of his time AS A DEMI LICH when he casts imprisonment. the eye has a snowball's chance against his death spells he casts before he transforms.
