[IMG] When you pick Imoen up in Spellhold she always seems to have 400,000 XP, about a million less (or three full levels) than the rest of your party. Given that she's supposed to be essential to the plot, the game designers seem to have gone out of their way to make you reluctant to take her back. This, to me, is the single most irksome aspect of the entire game. She's supposed to replace Nalia who by this time will be significantly more powerful. I read somewhere in the forum that if you have more than 1.5 million XP she rejoins with 1.2 million. Nope. Every other NPC joins at a level vaguely commensurate with the rest of the party, but not Imoen. Last time through the game I used Shadowkeeper to give her an extra million, taking 200,000 each from the rest of the party. It made taking her back a lot more palatable.

Wow, for someone who hardley posted anything since becoming a member a year ago, you sure have been active in the last few days :p (Keep it up, BTW - the more, the merrier :) )

Anyway, back on topic, I agree. In my current game, when I got her back, I think she was at level 11, while everyone else was around level 14-15. I also have Nalia (I know, 2 thief-mage duals  ), so she's my primary mage, and I use Imoen for thieving only. Most annoying :grr:

I find this quite annoying aswell. But tbh, my annoyance is shortlived with the experience on offer both in Spellhold and more particularly, in the Sahuagin City, she soon shoots up and hits the XP cap before i meet Irenicus anyway, so whatever ^^.

The highest level she'll get is level 11 (which is something like 1.2 million XP).

What level is your PC? I don't know why you're getting her so low. As was said, though, it isn't that hard to get her to the cap by the end of the game.

My party before going to Spellhold was

Me, Minsc, Jaheira, Anomen, Aarie and Nalia.

I then replaced Nalia in favour for Yoshimo when I left to go to Spellhold.

When I finally got Immy back in the party, I believe she was at Level 12 or 13 for me.

I play relying heavily on my melee fighters, with Aarie casting Holy Smite/Fireballs here and there, so I guess I had the patience for Immy to develop. And it has most definately paid off, as I'm now in ToB and she is a level 22 mage, whereas Aarie is just level 19 even though she has been in my party so much longer (her low mage level obviously due to multi-class).

Don't be discouraged by her low level. She still came up big for me in the final fights of SoA, so she does develop into a contributing mage. I find her low level (for me) didn't hinder the progress of my party. :)

    Annoying? Yes
    Big Deal? Not really.

By the time you get to the end of the game, if she's a few hundred thousand away from everyone else, it's still only one (maybe two) levels from everyone else.

    @ Splunge - nice - new gem.

Don't think of Nalia as a Thief/Mage... think of her as a mage that can use a bow!

As far as Imoen goes, she's a level 7 thief so that, plus 400,000 xp is 440,000. At 400k she's a level 11 mage, so that's not too shabby. With 1 million more xp she'll be level 13, which gives her 2 lvl 6 spells. I'm sure that by the time you hit the Underdark she'll be up to speed. I don't know, but she always seems to gain levels wayyy faster than anyone else.
