    Hey you lovely people!

My web designer has asked me to do something with some pictures and I have no idea how! I have Vista and no fancy photoshop software (other than the standard stuff you get with windows)

I've posted part of his email below. Could somebody please give me an idiots guide on how to do what he's asked?

    Thank you xxxxxx

    The Email:

I need to replace the images I have on the website with yours.. can you pull together all the images? If so (and this might be the tricky bit) can they be..

    1) In JPEG format (.jpg)

    2) Provide 2 versions (one is the for the scrolling bit on the front page), the 2nd is for when the user clicks on it to view in more detail (see attached examples)

The small one is 142 pixels wide and 120 pixels deep
The larger one is 300 pixels wide and 365 pixels deep

The naming of the picture needs to be similar to above as well, no “spaces” between the words use a “-“ or a “_” and needs to contain the wrapper number

What exactly is the question? How to saves images in jpg format and make them a certain size? You can do that with a free program like IrfanView.

[IMG] You could even do it in MS Paint if you really had to.

When you save a picture go to File -> Save As... then select JPEG from the drop down menu at the bottom instead of bitmap.

As for resizing. Most options will be in either 'edit' or 'image' menus. Just look around until you can change the image size.

Unless you're being asked to crop images for the thumbnails he's asked for, it's relatively simple once you've found the options.

What he is asking you to do is have two images with the pixels setup in different sizes. You might be able to accomplish this task in MS Paint, though I am not 100% sure. I recommend downloading some free software to help you out. If you have Adobe Elements these changes should only take a couple of minutes if that.

Windows has a free "Power Toy" called the Image Resizer that can do it. It's built in to the context menus, so you right click the image(s) and select "Resize Pictures" and the options pop up. :D :rolling:

Do not, no matter what, use Paint to scale images. It can do it, and the resulting image will look awful.

There are plenty of free image manipulators of varying complexity. I use GIMP for all my image manipulation (with a few plugins it can do everything that Photoshop can do) but you may want to use a simpler software, as the interfaces of the more advanced ones (like GIMP and Photoshop) can look daunting. Tal's suggested IrfanView, which IIRC is rather easy to use.
