I have been playing Icewind Dale 2 since it came out. I've looked at walkthroughs and stuff to find out what the best items are. but where do i find the pit fiend armor and the aasimar aura? i've read that conlan has them, but i've bought items from him and he doesn't have them. are they actual items in the game or am i chasing them for nothing? (oh and what is with the bed in conlan's forge?)

I don't think I've ever encountered those items before. There are one or two items that are elusively only encountered via random drop so maybe that applies to these items as well.

I don't know where you were told you could pick up the Aasimar's Aura or the Plate of the Pit Fiend from Conlan but he doesn't sell them. You can, however, buy them from, IIRC, Heggr Splitsteel down in the Underdark south of the drow outpost. If he's not the one who sells them then check with the other two merchants.

In Heart of Fury you can buy Plate of the Balor (an even more powerful version of the Plate of the Pit Fiend) and a more powerful version of Aasimar's Aura (I can't remember what it's called).

I might be wrong and Conlan might sell the Aasimar's Aura but I know I bought it somewhere between the merchants in the Underdark up to Conlan. The Plate of the Pit Fiend isn't all that good IMO because during my game time I've found many different pairs of armor that were a whole lot better, especially in Heart of Fury (I mean better than Plate of the Balor as well).

EDIT: Seeing as your only passage back to the Underdark would to be to load a past save or to restart the game completely, I suggest download Weimer's Ease-of-Use mod and enable the teleportation option on it and take yourself back to the Underdark (unless you killed the merchants which would be a waste, d'oh!). The only instance you should never use it is when you think it's a good idea to teleport from your current position to a more dangerous spot in the game, ie. how about taking a trip from your arrival in Targos to Kuldahar with all those yuan-ti ready to skin your scrawny little lvl. 1 ass apart. Ouch...

The Pit Fiend armor is sold by Heggr Splitsteel in the Underdark. Its a great armour as it can cause fire damage to anyone who harms you. Unlike the description given it doesnt cast sunfire so no harm to my charecters.

The Aasimar's Aura is sold by Conlan in Kuldahar. I dont like it much as it only has permanent protection from evil cast on it.

And Conlan is not standing in his forge. That is the locked cabin you see beside the portal to Chult. He has left it as it has been overrun by the Yuan-ti. He currently runs his shop from someones deserted house, hence the bed.
