    can my fighter/Mage cast Gate

    With an 8 mil. exp cap, Your fighter class will be about lvl23, mage - ~lvl20, so You will be able to cast 2 lvl9 spells, Gate is one of those.

    your priest can probably use gate in an earlier level than your mage IIRC
