[IMG] I perfomred the system checker and it came up with three files which may be corrupted, all in Windows:
    user.exe
    setupx.dll
    packager.exe
So, when I went to replce them, I put in the Windows 98 CD, right? But it says that file is not located there. What's up? I also perfomred a find file for those files and the didn't show up on the CD either. I'm probably doing this all wrong, but let me know what to do if you can! I'm grateful.

The reason you can't locate those files is that they are in the .cab files which are compressed files. I would strongly recommend that you go to microsoft.com and do a knowledge base FAQ search on the corrupt files and cabs before you go any further. Read the one that says you may be extracting the wrong files for sure and then others that might relate. If you WinXX somehow loads, it is possible to just install it again over the current instalation. This will replace all corrupted files, but save your information in registry etc ant take about 10-15 minutes of time maxed

Definately the fastest and easiest way will be to just reinstall windows, over top. It will fix your problems.

[IMG] My eyes have been opened. It took about ten restarts but I reinstalled Windows and used the Start up disc to get new copies of the corrupted files...Thanks a lot. I think I had a moment of clarity...
