    [IMG] Nice system! I'm jealous.

I was planning an upgrade this year, but the funds weren't there. I ended up just buffing my current system with more RAM (320MB now) and a PowerLeap/Celeron 1.2Ghz processor upgrade.

    Maybe next year... :(

[IMG] I looked for a 5.1 floppy drive, but they don't make them anymore :p

I just needed a little more power and space, my old system gets slower by the day. This new system shouldn't be obsolete for another week or two...WHooHoo!

Here's my current ((soon to be old)) system:

    Celeron P2 /766Mhz
    256k RAM
    32MB GeForce 2 video card
    30GB hard drive
    Soundblaster
    O/S: Windows XP

[IMG] You heard about that, eh? I am easily the slowest pc in Daggerdale! Whenever I go out with a party and go through an Area Transition...They are on the other side of the map when my character finally emerges!

I had to yell at a little boy on the play-ground for saying **** in front of my two-year-old last night. Who knew that four asteriks in a row could be so vulgar! :holy:

Bel ... nice system. Since you saved cash, we all assume you'll be donating the extra to SP. ;)

Yah! Those area transitions are killer. Before I upgraded my processor from the PII-400, I was in the same boat, last one through even if I started first. Now I fall much closer to the middle of the pack.

Everyone tends to blame slowness on the connection, but upping my system specs made a much bigger difference to my pc speed than upping my connection to broadband did.

"Half the price, as much power; AMD" ;)

:rolling: That´s 5 bucks wasted! :hahaerr:

After an year you want a *real* mouse (at least when the mouse ball is all dirty): MS Explorer Blue. :nono: That´s another 5 bucks wasted.

Average, but good (I have the same soundcard). Soon you just *must* have that "24-bit Advanced HD" and SB Audigy 2.

:square: Two trial programs; they´re worthless.

WordPerfect... Make a visit to: www.openoffice.org

Windows XP... That´s 500 bucks wasted; try borrowing the CD from your friends next time. :p

Umm... "Monitor is video ready without monitor?" Me stupid, me don´t understand... Anyway, Dell´s monitors are just terrible, and after a few years TFT-monitors will be dominant in the market; guess what you will want then? ;)

1150 of a package that is worth 700-800... Btw, hope you got a good 'backbone' to your computer...

    [IMG] Whatever -

The software comes with the pc...I didn't have the choice to not get it, or else I would have just used the O/S from my old pc.

As for the 3.5 floppy...I still have files I use that are stored on 3.5's...So it's five bucks I wanted to spend.

AMD processors - Half the price...For good reason from what I've read. It seems they've been having problems with their processors lately. I figure Intel's been around forever, and has quality products...I'll take my chances with them.

Dell mouse, again it comes with the pc...I have a laser guided mouse that I'll use instead.

The other software, I could care less about. I have an accoun with Norton for firewall and antivirus...SO it doesn't really factor in for me.

    I didn't buy a monitor, I have a nice 19" already. As for price vs. power...I'm happy with what I got. :p

[IMG] AMD has problems SHIPPING their latest processors, not with their quality. I've switched from Intel to AMD 7 years ago and never regretted it. For a regular user AMD simply means same performance as Intel for half the price.

Heh, I have a Dell nearly identical to yours, cept an ATI 9700 instead of 9800. Just have three quick questions if you'd indulge me :D .

    1. What computer model is it? Mine is a 4550 but when I last checked Dell's website it seems they no longer allow you to get the 9800 as an upgrade for it, only the Geforce 4 MX. I guess they do this whenever they come out with new models, forcing people to buy the more expensive computers just to get the video card option...

    2. How much did keeping your old monitor save you? I took the standard monitor and the final price was around $1100 as well. Yet another place where Dell tries to screw you, especially with those damn flat screens!

    3. Getting any new games? I ordered Morrowind from Amazon, can't wait to see what it looks like with graphics maxed out!

Oh, you're totally right about floppy drives, it's pretty sad they're not even standard anymore.

And Virne, you really need to chill out amigo. I realize that making your own system is usually cheaper, but some people just don't have the time/patience to do it. The nice thing about Dells is they come with everything included, and are extremly stable! I don't think I've had a single crash in the months that I've had the thing.
