[IMG] You could also have named her " My Precious " :p  :shake:

Was it named after a nickname for your wife?

    Nice car.

Don't know the origin of the name, though.

I think it's stupid to give to a car a name. And I don't understand why in English you're refering to the car as "she" and not "it".

    Anyway, nice car.

[IMG] Because all cars are she! They're temperamental, cost a lot, and are difficult/expensive to maintain...See where I'm going with this???? ;)  :spin:

    Ha ha ha! :)

Anyway, I mean "why in the English language a car(a ship, etc) is being refered to as 'she' and not as 'it'?".

Sir Bel, all stick shift vehicles are "hes" in my book! Especially older cars with touchy transmissions that have to be nudged just right to give you the power you need... If you need more confirmation, didja ever notice how guys so lovingly rest their hands on the gearshift and caress the knob?!

Anyway, nice name even though I don't know the reference.

Rallymama and Sonja (whose name has been explained here before)

[IMG] Yes, I suppose cars with "sticks" should be male.

The name Pearly comes from an Episode of Space: Above and Beyond, a short lived sci-fi show on Fox. The episode featured a space army tank driver, who talked to his tank a lot. The tank's name: Pearly.

I thought it fit, cause my SUV is a TANK! And yes, I talk to her sometimes... ;)

Indeed, you should always refer to cars as 'she'. Never seen 'Gone in 60 seconds?' :D

Actually, she's a flapjack octopus, and hates inking in public (that was my first thought, too, Mat!).

@Alex: Countries, swords and ships are 'she' although 'it' is grammatically correct too.

@Sir Ai Rayzor: Belly confined to one woman? You must be joking :shake:  :shake:

I haven't seen it yet, but she was larger than life on the side of my daughter's Happy Meal box yesterday.

Haven't seen the movie and already have a Nemo cup, Nemo bubble blower and a Nemo bath-fish. Who says America isn't overly-commerical!

So it has nothing to do with Pearly Grey?

 (what's that supposed to mean, MoN?)

[IMG] No Pealry was a tank! Here are a few quotes from the episode:

Hawkes, Fox and McQueen about Pearly:
Hawkes: "Looks like you and your APC are out of simpatico."
    Fox: "Tank!"
McQueen: "No need to get ugly, sergeant."
Fox: "Pearly is not an armored personnel carrier, she's a tank. You call her an APC one more time,
I'll use your guts to grease her treads."

In your case it's an APC. :p

I remember the APC in Red Alert 1. Quite fast.
