[IMG] I installed the RAM memory, which is actually not the big deal. What is the big deal is how incredibly smooth the games are now, its like I went from watching a slide show to watching a motion picture (at least during battles). Awesome, totally.
As for the install, I had to remove the old RAM, put the new RAM in its place (I tried just adding it and it didn't work, but they are both 100mHz)and it works awesome. I may try to add the old 32 in the left over spot, but I don't think I really need that much. We'll see. What a change!

[IMG] Yes I can see a difference! I think the music is even better. My system played BG1 and IWD fine, but BG2 and some other games gave me grief (System Shock 2, Delta Force 2, etc.) No more! I wish I hadn't waited so long, and I got this memory off of ebay believe it or not, for $17! I didn't want to say I got it off ebay, as then I would feel total humiliation if it were defective, but of course its not, so I'm cool with it. This gave me nearly equal pleasure as tuning the twin SUs on my old MG, but the results were more dependable!
While I was inside the PC, I noticed the video card. Is it as easy to replace? I suppose drivers are involved so its a bit more complicated after its installed? Also, there were two banks that were empty that resembled the slots for the RAM, but off to the right of the RAM location. What are those for? This is an Emachines etower 500is. I was just wondering what everything was after I got comfortable and knew I wasn't going to shock the system to death.
A very rewarding experience for this newbie at all things computerized (except disaster).

The video card is easy to change. Just unscrew it, pull it out, place in the new one and screw it tight. Turn the computer on, insert the drivers CD, point the drivers directory to the location on the CD and perhaps reboot the machine once more. That's all!

A friend of mine just upgraded his system to a DDR rig. I bought his 256meg stick from him for 30 bucks :D

Bateluer now has an acceptable 512megs of ram.

Edit = To install vidcard. 1)Remove the old card from the device manage. 2) power down computer 3) remove case and ground self 4) locate old vidcard, unscrew it and pull it straight out. 5)insert new card into proper slow, screw in. 6)Replace case, power up.
7)Point the auto detect hardware wizard to the driver CD.
