Alright I want to take a Ranger/Cleric (probably, haven't 100% decided yet) through the game with Viccy for the romance but I can't seem to use her effectively. I don't like the fact that she is a straight single-class cleric, I mean, who needs that? Aerie can heal just as effectively not to mention magery herself to power. And Jaheria can fight but Viccy? I've loved her since BG1 (back when I found her useful) but in my other game that uses her (I'm a big fan of protagonist+lover party) all she does is restore my fighter/thief after he's been level drained. Any ideas?

Why would a Ranger/Cleric, who has to be of good alignment, want to romance an evil priestess of a rival god? I say use her as a shield. ;)

Because I wanna try a ranger/cleric and I wanna romance Viccy and I wanna play ONE game. :D I can change her alignment after all. That is if she survives long enough!

    Arian,

be careful with the holy/unholy words and the holy smites/unholy blights later in the game.

Viccy can memorise a large number of buffing spells (e.g. chaotic commands, free action, remove fear). Not so important with a small party.

She can also plink away from the back with a good sling.

You could give her items like
    .
    .
    .
    .
    spoillsh
    .
    .
    .
sling of Everard, Strongarm mace, decent bracers and the girdle of fortitude.

Most of the suggestions for tanking her seem to suggest using a certain hammer (by Crom :D ) so her usefulness as a bovver gurl would probably be short and sweet in the early chapters....

In that case, she's not a bad spellcaster. Cleric's have good pre-combat spells, as well as things like blade barrier (works wonders in conjuction with sanctuary or a potion of invisibility). And Viccy can control undead (until you change her alignment...), which is sometimes useful. After you change her alignment, she can explode undead. Aerie can do that too, but Viccy can do it sooner and better since she advances faster. For combat, she can also do well with a wand of the heavens, finger of death, animate dead (especially at 15th level and higher when she can make skeleton warriors).

Viccy is without doubt the best cleric in the game. In BG1 you would never have used her on the front-line and shouldn't be used that way now unless absolutely necessary.

Give the the best armour, shield and a good weapon and she can fight if needed. As a cleric, her THAC0 won't be that bad but she will only have 1 attack per round - use haste potion.

She has an awesome arsenal of buffing spells that can protect/help you - Prot Evil, Def Harmony, Neg Plane Prot and summon skeletons (they are cool). She has enough spells that she can prevent you from getting so hurst instead of needing healing all the time.

Because of her high Wis she will have lots of bonus spells, so definitely don't get rid of her. Being a single-class cleric is a bonus as you get much quicker access to L7 spells!!

Maybe you need to change one of your other party members so you can get better support. Who else do you have in your party?

That's just the thing, I only have me and her. As I said above, I like my party of me and my lover throughout the game. I'm too greedy to have anyone in my party unless they have 'benefits'. ;) So getting level 7 spells quickly is not a problem. And my F/T doesn't get hurt too much, and it's nothing the few regeneration items he has can't fix. It's not really that I'm having trouble killing, it's just that Viccy does't really do anything. My 'party', aka me, would be much stronger without her, and that bugs me. But I still want to keep her. *shrug* I might be asking too much out of her, she is a humble cleric after all.

Sorry - didn't realize it was just you and her.

Whilst you are going in and killing things, Viccy can be summoning more help or send down a torrent of death, etc, etc. She can help disable the enemy as well for you. She has some awesome spells so check them out. Give her a potion of haste and let her join in the fun if need be.

As she is leveling quickly have you checked out the power of her turn undead ability - that should be extremely useful against vampires, etc.

She can also use her spells and missiles to keep the mage(s) busy whilst you close the gap for the final kill.

I love Viccy and wouldn't play any game without her - she is usually one of my most useful characters.

So I guess what you're saying is that Viconia isn't very suitable for your party. What I would do, although some people would probably consider this cheating, is edit Viconia in Shadow Keeper.

I don't really think this is cheating if you do it a bit balanced. You could of course create the class you want with the exact stats you want, which would be a bit like cheating, because the game normally wouldn't give you these benefits.
But you can also take a lot at the other existant NPCs and copy the stats of someone more useful to you. I wouldn't consider this cheating, since the game would have given you a character with those stats anyway and all you really do is change the personality, which is of no real benefit, other then it being more fun.
