How to turn an NPC from stone to flesh?

I've had Aerie turned to stone in a fight. Probably some of you will tell me to leave her as is (!), but I'd like to have her back. I carried a Stone to Flesh scroll with me just in case such a situation occured, but now that it's the case, I don't know how to turn her back.

My scroll is in a quick item slot, just like any scroll, but when I try to target the "statue", I just can't get it to activate the spell. Am I doing something wrong or is there just no way to turn someone back to flesh?

who is using the scroll?
what class(probably doesn't matter)
do you have any mages with you?
try teaching it to another mage and have him cast it on her
otherwise you might hae a bug or something
ill try it myself right now.....
i tried it on Cernd and it worked fine
although i used a mage cast a memorized spell
it worked just fine
so try that
if that doesn't work
i am clueless

 

My main PC is casting the spell, and I'm a wizard, so I don't think that's the problem. The spell pinpoints the other NPCs, even if they're not turned to stone.

I just read another post where it mentions that NPC turned to stone should have their pictures turned a different color. Well, Aerie's picture is gone, just as if she was not part of the party anymore. Is that a bad sign?!?!? All I have to aim at is her "statue", and not her picture....... I think I smell trouble........

 

Yeah, the picture will disappear. You should be able to aim the scroll at the base of the statue (a little circle will appear) and then she'll turn back to normal.

Is it the green scroll or a blue one?

if the circle is blue,she has to be asked to rejoin the party

I think he means the colour of the scroll. If it is blue it may be a divine magic scroll instead, and therefore unusuable by a mage, I think green can be used by anyone.

It is a blue scroll, which is usable by a wizard, so that is not the problem. I think it could have been a layout glitch, meaning where Aerie was standing when turned to stone. She was close to a small mound which cannot be accessed by the PC (not in a sense that she is far, since I'm standing right beside her, but in a sense that PC cannot stand on that mound). Because she was so close to it when it happened, it might be possible that the area I should be aiming at with the spell just cannot be accessed.

I did the only thing I thought was good to save her: I reloaded.............

Hopefully I will not need to use that scroll again!! But I'm now in the underdark with all those beholders, so I'll need luck!!

For future reference, just in case you don't already know -- petrification ends any romance you might have had going with the character in question, even if you bring them back.

 

I thought that was fixed in the patch.

It should certainly be fixed at Baldurdash.

 

The romances are controlled with a local character variables, which get wiped with petrification or imprisonment. You probably could fix something like this, but it would be a huge scripting workaround.

 

The LoveTalks and timers are, the romances themselves are not.

Only Jaheira's romance will be terminated by stoning or imprisonment, the others won't be unless they are in that state for more than three days.
