Okay, is there a script, or something that automatically sets up my rogue to make sneak attacks? Or do I have to use Invisibility spells and the like to guarantee it?

As far as I am aware, you just have to approach the enemy from behind to sneak attack them.

I have managed to cause sneak attack damage while hiding in the shadows, as well as hitting them in the back while they are preoccupied with my tanks.

I was very impressed when my rogue eventually had her boots of speed. That enabled her to run around the fray and stab the opponents in the back occasionally, adding some 4d6 damage per hit. I found that very effective :)

Add a few fighter levels. I am serious here. Your character will be much more likely to sneak attack.

Oh well, I forgot, and I agree - my rogue actually had a few fighter levels. If you sneak attack successful or not strongly depends on your attack bonus.

[IMG] My strategy for sneak attacks has been:

    1) Get behind target.
    2) Thrust
    3) Repeat

It's worked for me so far! ;) :D  :spin:

My rogue does have 2 levels of ranger, I don't know if that makes any difference or not. My thief is a Rogue 7 / Ranger 2

The ranger and fighter attack bonuses are equal. I have a Ranger/Rogue 8/7 and she kicks! Dual wielding scimitars or flails as target may need. She can easily sneak attack, but she is so much of a tank and archer too. Totally all round exterminator. Neutral Evil Tiefling b****. ;)

The attack bonuses for paladins, barbarians, rangers and fighter receive per level are identical. The special abilities of the classes compensate for that, a brief overview:
    • fighter: - receives a bonus feat every two levels, very valuable advantage
    • paladin - spellcasting, turn undead, lay on hands and saving throw bonuses
    • ranger - stealth, spellcasting and free dualwielding in light armor
    • barbarian - faster movement, extra hitpoints, rage and later damage resistance
Depending on what class you have all of these options offer attractive multiclassing options, so I had a deep gnome barbarian-illusionist for good fun ... :) ;)
