How does backstab work???

Can someone tell me how this works???

I've posted two topics and promptly seen them fly down the list.

 

Backstabb works if your Thief (or Kit) is in Stealth mode or is Invisible AND attacks the victim from a side or flanking or rear position. Some creatures cannot be backstabbed. Also if the creature has been attacked first by any of your other party members I believe your Thief can backstabb from any angle.

You can try the AI script setting for backstabbing(for the Thief AI) if you want to see how the computer handles this.

You can only use a sinle handed dagger/sword-type weapon to backstabb. You'll know that your attack is successful (if you have the proper text turned on) because the dialouge window will state something like "Quintuple Backstabb" and then the damage delivered.

Currently my highest damage that I've delivered from a backstabb is around 160pts. However that is all unimportant because most of the average creatures have 40-70pts in the game from what I've seen.

I'm not the most knowledgable person but I think if your hiding in shadows you backstab as first attack.
Please someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I managed to get Imoen to backstab with a quarterstaf before, but I dunno about any other 2handed weapons.

 

heh, I never really use backstab, because I use the theif to scout, and if s/he comes across an enemy, they will backstab, do a shitload of damage, perhaps not kill the enemy, and my party is miles away, and I dunno if its just me, but my theifs are just weedy.
