there are rooms with no doors and i'm sure there must be a secret door to enter it. I was told to turn the show dice mode on (or whatever its called). With that done i still don't know what to do.

Just walk by. Sometimes you need to stand for a bit. I believe you can examine the wall -- but I've never had any success.

Some rooms can only be accessed via stairs or a magic portal.

If you hit the right Alt (or maybe Shift) key on your keyboard while playing the game, you will turn on the "show rolls" function. Then it is easy to just walk by all the walls and when you see the rolls go crazy it means there is a secret door there and the computer is rolling for your characters to discover it. Even if they fail, you can have any rogue "search" and they WILL find it, and get exp for it. Come to think of it, any character at all can search for it and get the EXP for finding it, so use whichever character needs the EXP the most.

BTW the other key I mentioned (be it the right Shift or Alt) will have your characters Run instead of walk from place to place- another very helpful thing!

You get more XP if you don't search actively.
My cleric usually did the detecting since a high level undead turner is most important.
It's also a nice option for retrying at level ups in order to get more HP.(Don't ever wear con-increasing items while levelling !)
You might not get the XP if you reload after detecting.

It sure would be nice to be able control when you level, rather than having it forced on you. Otherwise, you've got to reload and replay the Exp gaining event with your CON bonus items off. If the event is battle, that can be quite a hindrance!
