How do you dual to an assassin?

I've seen a lot of talk on the board about dualing TO various kits. I thought this was not possible in the unmodded BG2. What mod do you use to allow this?
I initially thought about Shadowkeeper, but while SK will let you assign the spells for a kit, it doesn't assign the other bonuses such as an assassin's +1 to hit and backstab bonuses.

I'd love to try playing a Mage(13/19)->Assassin, but don't know how to pull it off.

I wrote it the way I did as I haven't decided if I want to dual after getting 6th level spells or 9th level. I'm leaning towards 6th (mislead & tenser) so I can actually start backstabbing in Shadows of Amm.

You cannot dual to a kit.

You can do it via SK -- there is an option to give yourself all the bonuses of a kit to XX level. Just choose whatever level you are at.

Where is the option for the bonuses? I found the option for adding the innate spells by hitting the "kit" button on the "Innate" tab , but it doesn't seem to give me the bonus to hit.

I'm using version 2.1.4 of Shadowkeeper. Do I need to upgrade?

2.1.4 is the most recent. I thought there was a way to do this on one of the screens, but apparantly not....

    From MudMaster:

I think the easiest way would be to make an assassin, and look at the various bonuses for the character and assign those bonuses to your character. You could also look up the +1 to hit and assign it yourself. The bonuses to backstab don't come into affect until you're much higher level.

If you were to (say for instance) dual to a Thief, then save and SK to Assassin (1st Level) you just have to (I would assume) just SK yourself some extra Xp and then it would do the work for you...wouldn't it?

    *getting confused now* ;)

Impossible to dual to a kit without the help of mods or Shadowkeeper, tis true, dear friends...

It is possible to dual from a kit such as assassin though...an evil assassin/wizard could be quite formidable in SOA, though would lack the [snip] if you plan to go to TOB...

One of the mistakes that I think the game makes is that it didn't follow something BG1 let you do with duel-classing. And that is that in standard 2nd edition D&D (which BG1 & BG2 are based on) you can duel-class from a different class to a specialist mage.

I haven't finished BG1 with my cleric/enchantress (with enchanter being the class I dueled to) but I was successfully able to duel class from a different class to a specialist mage in BG1. Not sure if you can keep your specialist mage standing when you port your game from BG1 to BG2 but it may be worth a try if you have both.

Going back to BG1 means you may have to give up becoming a Kensei/Mage and may prohibit becoming a [snip] unless you modify the game. But duel-classing to a specialist mage is possible in unmoded BG1.
