How do I use this "stuff of the magi" Thingy?

I don't know how to get it working. Most of the stuff you put in the overide file, but this you don't. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Ummm....I'll do what I think I can here.


It can cast Lightning Bolt/Fireball 3 times per day. Use the item icon in the bottom bar of the PC/NPC wielding it, then click on the LBolt/Firball icon, and then point the target. First a Lightning Bolt will hit it, then a Fireball will go off from that point.

It can also cast Spell Trap on the wielder.

It hits as a +5 weapon, but only does +1 damage.
This means that it can hit people like Kangaxx' demilich form (only +4 weapons can damage Kangy) but only do +1 damage.

Its a good weapon for a mage who has lots of melee fighters in his/her party. In my party, I have Aarie wield it, while myself, Minsc, Anomen and Jaheira take care of all the melee work so Aarie can cast spells, including the spells from the Staff of the Magi.

Note: It is not meant to be a melee weapon! Unless you are fighting hobgoblins and the like, it is not of much use in melee. I also have the Staff of Rynn +4 in my party, so she can use that if needed in a fight.

It is good for everything, except melee combat with strong foes. Excellent Defensive weapon though with its constant Magic Resistance, Protection from Evil, and Spell Trap it can cast.

 

I don't think he's asking about the Staff of the Magi, but Stuff of the magi, an override file.
I don't have it so I can't answer the question.

Oh, about the Staff of the Magi, it's a good enough melee weapon. So what if you only get a +1 to hit bonus, it dispels magic on hit. Great weapon in the hands of a multi or dual class fighter/mage. But this is off topic I think.

 

You need to download TeamBG Editor Standard build 14 here

, then import the IAP, TBG, or IEES files into the override folder through that editor. You can't just drop the files in without going through the editor.

After that, you may need ShaowKeeper to get the filenames of the Stuff of the Magi, then use the console to summon the stuff in one at a time. I'd do it after you beat a really big baddie or something so as not to cheat.

 

That stuff is way overpowered! It really spoils the game when you can kill a normally tough enemy by casting all your defences, 9 magic missiles and 4 Horrid Wiltings in 30 seconds

Even the Staff of the Magi is overpowered. In the hands of a Fighter/Mage it's unstoppable. It's a good thing you can't backstab with a staff, cause then all the thief/mages would end the fight in 10 seconds (the invisibilty ability).

You can backstab with ANY melee weapon usable by a rogue (not sure if Stalkers can use any other weapon as well, but probably yes) -- try not to take the term "backSTAB" too literally. NWN was smart to change the name to "sneak attack," at least it's less confusing.

 

I think it was fixed in a patch so that the Staff of the Magi cannot be used to backstab

 

What? When you try to backstab with a staff it says: "Weapon unsuitable for backstab".

 

You can backstab with any weapon that a vanilla thief can wield. So SotM is out, even though a thief/mage can wield it, but a regular staff can be used for a backstab.

 

Oh. Well, I guess I'll hafta swollow my words. Anyway, I was right about the whole Thief/Mage thing and not being able to backstab. I just thought that you couldn't do it with any staff.
