    One of my students is good friends with the mother. This stuff is common on the Hobbema reservation. Something is different there from the other reserves in Alberta. It's saddening, to be sure.

    There are several groups who seek control of the drug and prostitution trades. They clash frequently. In addition, it is my understanding that in some cases different tribes have animosities stretching back centuries. It's a real disaster with no solution in sight.

    Native gangs initially started off as protect one another brotherhoods in prisons and on the streets, but ended up evolving into something much more. Scary parallel to the Sicilian Mafia.

    And yeah, as they proliferated, they ended up jostling with each other for control over certain things.

    Hate of other native tribes is often passed down from generation to generation. Example: The Blood and the Cree in Alberta.
