I'm having trouble defeating Melissan and the Five in the Ascension mod. I've been able to win at Novice level, barely beat it on Normal, but keep getting slaughtered at Core Level.

Does anyone have a good strategy for this battle?

    Thanks

Nothing you wouldn't have used yourself yet, I expect. The question is, why did you install The Ascension in the first case, if you found these battles challenging enough? One of the main points of this mod is to make them much harder...

I installed it because the original version was not challenging enough, unless put on Insane, but I like playing at Core level.

I know that its suppose to be more difficult but I just wanted to know what kind of tactics other people used to defeat Melissan and the Five in the Final Battle? The Five were easy to kill individually, but when facing them at the same time, they seem overly powerful.

You face the Five individually as you work your way to the final chapter. In the very last battle, you fight all five at the same time plus Melissan.

To kill Melissan, you have to first kill the Five, otherwise she'll just recharge. For all you tacticians, this is the perfect challenge.

Excuse me, I solo-ed it just fine, and I'm not a cheater.

I used a half-elven Fighter/Mage and coupled with Hardiness and a lot of Whirwinds, the Five couldn't stand before me. If you're getting beat up really bad, just teleport away with Dimension Door and heal yourself. Obviously, I used potions. I'm not too sure about using Unleash, never worked for me.

So this is how it went.

Went in with a Contigency full of spells that dispels invis./illusions. Then I Time-Stopped, Improved Alacritied, casted Breach, Improved Haste and some cannon fodder, activated high-level abilities, distracted others using the fodder, and concentrated on one person. Then I teleported away when it got too tough, healed myself, and went back in to take care of the remaining 3 (Usually I manage to kill 2 before I get Badly Injured). Used the same tactics, and when Melissan teleported in, I periodically used the Focus ability. It's a life saver. During her Time-Stops, I'll cast a few spells of my own like Lower Resistance and such. Called in a Comet in these instances to damage the whole gang. When my Hardiness, Magic Resistance, Critical Strike and Greater Whirwind runs out, usually I'll have a Badly Injured Amelyssan standing alone. Then used my Ring of Gaxx to get Improved Hasted and unleashed my full fury on her. Oh, and some Wishes helped a lot too ;).

    End.

But too make things easier for you, you could persuade Balthazar to join you.

I played core rules and found the final fight managable.
It was a long battle, but I haven't needed to reload, and there were no casualties in the end.

    My party was:

    my 27 th level sorcerer
    Imoen - 26 th level
    Sarevok - 31 th level
    Minsc - 29 th level
    Mazzy - 32 th level
    Viconia - 37 th level

Balthazar also added himself to my course

At the begining of the final battle my sorcerer casted focus on him, while Imoen casted time stop. - They together plus Balthazar took Yaga Shura to injured state after the time stop spell expired.

I concentrated attacks with Minsc and Mazzy to Illasera, who was shooting my spellcasters. They took her down in no time. Abazigal was the most annoying of the five here. He almost killed Sarevok, and needed all my tanks Sarevok, Mazzy, Minsc to take him down for good. Sendai and Yaga Shura were well occupied with Balthazar who stood his ground very well. Just to make sure he'll be O.K. I healed him once with Viconia.
Viccy was used only for healing in the final battle. Sendai was teleporting all the way, but fortunately my tanks also were good missile units(Mazzy had Short bow of Gesen, Minsc had Heartseeker +3, and Sarevok had Firetooth +5), so they shot her down rather quickly. Yaga Shura was the toughest of all. All my party needed to slay him. After all this mess Melissan was just a piece of cake.

Deck of Many things and the Lum machine helped a lot, besides I have visited the Yaga Shura siege camp a few times before disabling his invulnerability.

I don't know exactly how I got Balthazar join me in the final battle, sorry. I just tried to convince him that he also can avoid his destiny...and I mentioned him my solar helper. I don't remember more.

To get Balthazzar, I believe you have to be of Good alignment and have a rep of 20. Just tell him that the destiny could also mean stopping the prophecy and he'll admit that you're right and join you.

Another question I have now, is how do you get Bodhi to join. I tried using an Evil character and still couldn't convince her?
