It seems I never understood it...!
What determines a thief´s Detect Illusion and Set Trap skills? My F\T has more 100 detect traps but 0 detect illusion! And only 5 set traps! Why is this? It will be nasty if the thief doesn´t have good detect illusion ability when confronting a mage who has Spell Immunity:Divination casted...

Err, you put skill points into Set traps and Detect Illusions normally on each level up like you do to all other skills? They do not increase themselves. It is your choice to train in them when you level up?

You get some thief skill points when you level up as a thief, right? You ues this points to pump theiving skills like Open Locks, Find/remove traps, Hide in Shadows, etc.

Are you with me so far? Good.

Detect Illusions and Set Traps are also thief skills like others listed above. They are listed below the other primary thief skills in the level up screen. Just scroll down the thief skills mini-screen in level up page. You will find them. Pump points in to them via + just like you spend points in to other regular thief skills like Open Locks, Disarm Traps etc. And voila!

If you do not spend points into Detect Illusions and Set traps they will NEVER advance, just like all other thief skills. You need to put your points into a skill at level up to advance in it!

For detecting illusions:Search for traps! If there is a hostile illusion in the near vicinity of your thief, he will try to dispel it, based on his skill.

For setting traps:Use the star button (far right end of the quick-action menu) to access to special abilities. Set traps are there. Use it, if your skill is low, you will fail at setting the trap and most likely hurt yourself.

All clear and good now? ;)

When you created your character, you had the freedom to distribute skill points into the various thief skills. It looks like you put 100 into detect traps and none in Detect Illusion and Set trap.

I think you didn't realize the dialogue box that displays the thief skills has a scroll bar on the right hand side. So you never scrolled to the bottom to see detect illusion and set trap.

My suggestion is go create a dummy thief character and fiddle around with the screen where you allocate thief points.
