Help! DVD Install Looking for CD2?

I recently bought a copy of BG2/Throne of Bhaal for my son. This was one of my favorite games, years ago. It worked fine when we installed it, but afterwards, it doesn't read the install DVD and it's looking for CD2. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

Have you tried the Shadows of Amn CD2?

[Edit] May have misread - is the SoA disc a single DVD as well? I'll have another check online, I don't think I've heard that problem before.

Yes, you are correct. The entire BG2 came on a DVD ROM. I thought that maybe with the Throne of Bhaal expansion it would be corrected, but that isn't the case. The expansion still looks for CD2 when you attempt to play the BG2 side. Any ideas?

 

I know little about the DVD version, although a few years back somebody did post a link on how to convert the CD versions to a DVD version.

It sounds like either the DVD is damaged and unreadable, or the baldur.ini file is corrupted.

In the latter case, you'd goto your Program files (or Program Files (x86) if using a 64-bit version of Windows), and edit the Baldur.ini file.

First, however, you'd want to figure out a few things. Go to My Computer (just computer in Vista and Windows 7), and find the drive letter of your DVD-ROM. Make a note of it. Then right click on it and choose "Explore". You want to find where the folder named "CD2" is located on that CD. It may be in the root directory, or it may be in a folder pertaining to Shadows of Amn. Make a note of the path to that folder. You might want to open it, and just copy the path from the location bar of Internet Explorer.

In the Baldur.ini file (which you may need to log on as an admin to edit if using Vista or Windows 7), there is a section labeled "alias". It should look something LIKE this, but probably not exactly:

Find the part that says

Code:

CD2:=

and make sure the path you noted down earlier is listed correctly. If you have more than one drive, you can list more than one possible path by separating them with semicolons, see my own file above. I have it configured to let me play with either copies of my original CDs in the computer's original CD-ROM with drive letter F, or with a hacked DVD I created to eliminate disc swapping in the CD/DVD combo drive with letter G.

Yes, the computer shown above is old. It's a Windows 98SE/Windows XP dual boot that I've been using since it was current technology. It's what I've had BG2 installed on for nearly 10 years.

P.S. Could somebody please tell me how to embed visual aids (graphics) that I upload to my SP account into a SP post? I couldn't get it to work. I wound up just linking to the picture.

One other thought, If you added a new drive to your system, it's possible that the DVD drive letter changed, which would mean it was screwed up in Baldur.ini as the program is looking in the wrong place. The fix is the same as I described in my previous post.
